EXCLUSIVE! First Look at Movie Poster Illustrator Paul Shipper’s CLOUD ATLAS One-Sheet Trilogy!

The CLOUD ATLAS Triptych

The CLOUD ATLAS Triptych

Back in April of this year we were quite excited to bring our readers the news that New Zealand movie poster illustrator Paul Shipper was planning on creating on his own one-sheet tribute to the Warner Brothers film ‘Cloud Atlas’. After a casual Skype discussion with Beyond the Marquee’s own Jon Donahue (who had worked on the ground-breaking film), Paul and Jon came up with an idea for a newly illustrated alternative  ‘Cloud Atlas’ poster! After months of work on various side projects Paul recently found the time to create not just one, but a total of three ‘Cloud Atlas’ poster designs that each highlight a major storyline within the epic inter-woven plot of the film. We are all now proud to be the first to share with you the end result, some truly gorgeous works of art with such amazing detail, texture and richness, that which has not been seen in movie poster marketing art-work in many years. It’s no wonder that Paul Shipper is quickly becoming an over-night favorite amongst film Directors here in Hollywood this past year. Even the ‘Cloud Atlas’ filmmakers who have had a chance to see Paul’s work on these posters not only gave their nod of approval, but we have heard are even interested in obtaining prints for themselves! Paul Shipper will be here in Los Angeles this week at a cool art show being put on by the HERO COMPLEX GALLERY, click ahead for details as well as isolated images of each of the three fantastic ‘Cloud Atlas’ posters!

‘Cloud Atlas’ is a 2004 novel, the third book by British author David Mitchell. It consists of six nested stories that take the reader from the remote South Pacific in the nineteenth century to a distant, post-apocalyptic future. The 2012 film, written, produced and directed by Lana Wachowski, Tom Tykwer and Andy Wachowski features the multiple plotlines set across six different eras. ‘Cloud Atlas’ is an exploration of how the actions of individual lives impact one another in the past, present and future, as one soul is shaped from a killer into a hero, and an act of kindness ripples across centuries to inspire a revolution.

Upon completion of these epic posters, Paul Shipper released this statement; “Cloud Atlas is most definitely a film that deserves celebrating and this is one way I can do that. I can only hope that for those who have not seen the film yet that maybe this artwork would get them interested…”.

On behalf of the Beyond the Marquee team and Jon Donahue, we are incredibly grateful to have had the pleasure to work with Paul on this concept and so excited to see it finally come to fruition thru his amazingly artistic abilities.
