Our Top 10 Christmas (NOT “Holiday”) Movies…

It’s that time of year again. The eggnog is in the fridge, the mistletoe is hung, the tree is decorated and the malls are overcrowded. If that doesn’t put you in the Christmas mood, then maybe these ten Christmas themed flicks will.  Side Note: Yes, I said Christmas…I don’t and will NOT say “Holiday” movies, because they are CHRISTMAS themed flicks. If someone came up and said, “Happy Hanukkah!” I wouldn’t walk away steaming, I’d say it right back to them with a smile, and I’m not even Jewish! It’s CHRISTMAS time folks! Get over it and stop being so sensitive, America! (Sorry about that rant, I haven’t been getting a lot of sleep lately) Anyways, here are MY top ten CHRISTMAS flicks, enjoy!

10.) The Polar Express

What is wrong with this movie, folks? I love this flick! Always puts me in the CHRISTMAS spirit. The eyes are creepy? So are you!

9.) Bad Santa

Billy Bob Thornton is THE perfect Santa! Offensive and filled with heart, this one is a winner. Great supporting cast including Bernie Mac and John Ritter. Watch this with a rum filled eggnog. Or several.

(Honorable Mention: The Ref. Watch this with “Bad Santa”. But not with the kids.)

8.) Silent Night, Deadly Night

Have you been naughty? Watch out, this Clause is killer! Loved this horror flick since I first saw it in the theatre when I was a teen. My favorite scene? The sledding decapitation. Guaranteed to put you in the Christmas spirit…at least it does for me.

7.) The Grinch

WHO loves this movie? THIS guy, that’s WHO! WHO da man? Jim Carrey! Thank you, Ron Who-ard.

6.) A Christmas Story

Two words: Leg Lamp.

5.) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

So many great moments in this film, that I don’t even know where to begin. I’m happy that this Chevy Chase flick is now considered a Holiday Classic (Shit, I said Holiday) I raise my Marty Moose mug of eggnog to you, Chevy Chase!

4.) Emmett Otter’s Jug Band Christmas

This HBO special didn’t play in theatres, but no Christmas movie list should be without it. Warm fuzzy Muppet memories abound just thinking about this classic. When I was a kid, I was in a jug band. Not really.

3.) Scrooged

Two Words: Bill Murray. Okay, two more words: Karen Allen.

2.) Gremlins

It’s the Christmas-iest movie that I ever saw! Unless you are talking about #1…

1.) SCROOGE (1970)

Albert Finney is PERFECT as the title character. Love the sets, costumes, look and feel of this film. Did I mention the music?! I can’t think of a better CHRISTMAS favorite than this. I’m going to go and watch this now…

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Jon, thanks for adhering to saying, “Merry Christmas” instead of the oh-so-PC, “Happy Holidays.” Now I don’t feel so alone when I do the same thing.
