Universal Studios Orlando Celebrates 100 Years!

Universal 100 Years Water Spectacular Show

As we reported earlier, Universal Studios turned 100 years old. To help honor this great triumph, Universal Studios Orlando Resort will be celebrating with a new parade, a new nighttime show, and a new simulation ride.

Starting today, Universal Studios Florida will host a new parade, called Universal’s Superstar Parade, featuring some beloved characters. Just to name a few, Gru and those lovable minions from Despicable Me, Dora the Explore, Sponge Bob Square Pants, and many more. The parade will feature over 200 performers, including aerialist, tumblers, and several massive floats reaching up to 44 feet long and 23 feet high.

In the evening, Universal will hold the grand opening for their new nighttime show in their lagoon, called Universal’s Cinematic Spectacular: 100 Years of Movie Memories. The new show will feature clips from the ever expanding Universal library, scored to a new soundtrack, and synchronized to pyrotechnics, and colorful fountains that will reaching up to 100 feet. Not to mention, the clips will be projected onto several state-of-the-art water screen and narrated by Morgan Freedman.

I could tell you more about the show, but I’ll have writer and show director, Mike Aiello, tell you a bit about it, instead.

Later this Summer, Universal will also open it’s brand new 3D-simulator, Despicable Me: Minion Mayhem. The attraction will be based on Illumination Entertainment’s and Universal’s 2010 Summer blockbuster, Despicable Me. Guest will be offered a chance to become a minion, but first, they’ll have to go under “minion training,” but instead, end up on a hilarious and wacky adventure. This new attraction will feature the same cast from the film and is expected for a soft-opening soon.
