GREAT SCOTT!!! Back to the Future: The Musical is Headed to a Stage in London!

BTTF from Screen to Stage

BTTF from Screen to Stage

We just got an email from our good friend, Bob Gale, the co-creator/writer/producer of the Back to the Future trilogy, who let us in on some HEAVY News!

For years, fans have heard rumors and stories of potential plans for a 4th installment or even a reboot of the hit film series that starred Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd. Now, finally and officially, there has been a development! Just in time for next year’s 30th anniversary of Back to the Future’s release, a musical stage version of Back to the Future will open up in London’s West End! London-based director Jamie Lloyd and producer Colin Ingram sold a concept that clicked when it was pitched to the 1985 film’s creators, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis.

A musical version of the hit movie makes perfect sense when your main character dreams of being a rock musician! We can assume that all our favorite characters from the movies will have their on-stage counterparts including Marty’s parents and his wild-eyed scientist pal, Doc Brown! Read ahead for more details on this exciting news that’s electrifying fans across the space-time continuum!

Doc, are you telling me you're making a stage show... out of our movie!?!?

BACK TO THE FUTURE

BACK TO THE FUTURE

Back to the Future tells the story of a high school kid with not-so-perfect parents who gets transported back in a time machine from 1985 to 1955. Once in the past, he has to make sure history stays on track to keep his parents together, ensuring he’ll be born, while still working on finding a way to get back…to the future!

Rumor is the stage show will follow the format of the movie, but have it’s own spin on the same story. And of course we have to ask, will Huey Lewis and the New’s hit song “The Power of Love” be a part of the show? We’re told Yes! In fact, composer Alan Silvestri who wrote and composed the score for the original films will be working with some other musicians to incorporate some original songs into the production along with the favored classics!

‘Now all we have to find is a young man to play Marty,’ says Ingram. ‘He needs to be a guitarist, a singer, an actor — and good looking. We’ll provide the time machine.’

We here at Beyond the Marquee are quite excited and we’ll be hopefully sitting down with Bob Gale very soon to talk about this new development in the franchise and what surprises lie in store on the stage in the near future!!!

What do you think about this news? Would you see Back to the Future on stage? Don’t be a Butthead, drop us a comment below.
