SYNOPSIS:  The story chronicles a near-impossible cross-country race against time-one that begins as a mission for revenge, but proves to be one of redemption. In a last attempt to save his struggling garage, blue-collar mechanic Tobey Marshall-who with his team skillfully builds and races muscle cars on the side-reluctantly partners with wealthy, arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster. Just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet looks like it will save the business, a disastrous, unsanctioned race results in Dino framing Tobey for manslaughter. Two years later and fresh out of prison, Tobey is set on revenge with plans to take down Dino in the high-stakes De Leon race-the Super Bowl of underground racing. To get there in time, Tobey must run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet, dodging cops coast-to-coast and dealing with fallout from a dangerous bounty Dino put on his car. With his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia as allies, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first. 

VIDEO: In an HD digital age it’s hard to really say “the picture was grainy”. The colors were bright and vivid to match the cool colored cars in the film. Whether day or night the visual quality seemed sharp and crisp. On a HD big screen the outdoor sequences popped with a  vibrance all their own. Being that most of the film’s stunts and effects were practically done, no awkward out of place CGI was evident. In a world where life imitates art, the bringing to life of this movie from a video game certainly encompasses that.

AUDIO: The surround sound on this excels beyond belief. As much as you’d expect a car racing adventure film to be full of throttle intensive racing sounds, crashes and explosions, it’s the details of the rest of the film’s ambient sounds that truly put you into the movie; from outdoor birds to rustling of leaves. Actor audio is crisp and clear as well, making this a treat to listen to as well as watch.

FINAL THOUGHTS: Now never having played the video game, other than having watched friends play the various incarnations over the years, I had no connection to base the film off of, but I didn’t need to. It was a fun action packed wild ride of fast cars, precision driving and crazy stunts. I loved it. This really is a total guys movie, a real popcorn flick that is full of high energy, gorgeous visuals and jaw dropping stunts. If you’re a racing car enthusiast, this is a Blu-ray to add to your home video collection!
