Dragons: Riders of Berk on DVD
My kids are huge fans of the Dreamworks Academy Award®-nominated hit movie How To Train Your Dragon!, so when we received a review copy of the new animated Cartoon Network series Dragons: Riders of Berk, they were over the top with excitement. The adventures of Hiccup the young viking, Toothless the dragon and all their friends continue where the film left off, with the community of warriors embracing the peace they have made with the dragons, the dragons are having a harder time being domesticated, and some traditionalists in the viking community of Berk are still not warming up to their new friends. Read ahead for our review!
For fans of the film, this is a great way to bridge the gap before the sequel is released next year (June 20, 2014), and the third film which is already scheduled to be released on June 18, 2016. The four episodes included on the DVD of the animated TV series, guarantee nothing but more high-flying action and fire-breathing fun with all-new adventures and exciting, never-before-seen dragons. What’s great is unlike some TV adaptations or direct to video sequels you lose the main voice cast, but not so here (well a few sub character’s have been replaced), the main actors; Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and T. J. Miller reprise their roles from the How to Train Your Dragon film. The animation is as spectacular as the movie, it does not feel like Dreamworks skimped on this series just to keep the franchise going, the quality is evident in the picture and 5.1 Dolby Digital audio of this 90 minute DVD.
Included in the DVD are 5 Collectible Dragon Training Cards featuring an augmented reality mobile experience. The augmented reality app can be downloaded at dreamworksanimation.com/ar. Use it to bring the Dragon cards to life! Collect them all! (and scroll to the end of this post to see all the collectible cards in their digital versions)
The DVD cover also directs you to an Augmented Reality mobile app, that lets movie posters, playing cards and more come to life! Simply go here to download the app (iPhone or Android): http://www.dreamworksanimation.com/ar/
After that, it’s as simple as opening the app and holding it over a Dreamworks poster or card. In moments they get animated for you!
