FRANKEN blu ray BOXART

FRANKENWEENIE Electrifies on Home Video!!! (Blu-ray 3D Review)

One of the most intriguing animated films to come out this past year, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie puts on a great show for all ages.  The movie now on Blu-ray in a 3D 4-disc combo pack takes the fun into your living room where you can enjoy it close up.  The 3D imagery has all the depth of field as in the theater version and the HD gives it clarity of both sound and video. It’s kid friendly with a heartwarming tale of love between a boy and his pet.

Direct from the imaginative files of Tim Burton who gave us the fun films Alice in Wonderland, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride, this little jewel entertains big time.  Using his creative technique of stop-motion animation and adding 3D to give it depth isn’t enough for the creature master, this time his scary tale becomes even spookier in Black & White.

A FRANKENWEENIE Discussion With Tim Burton

Frankenweenie – Available January 8th

In anticipation of Disney’s release of Tim Burton’s FRANKENWEENIE, which will be available on 3D Blu-ray, Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Platforms on January 8th, Disney is revealing some of the electrifying bonus features that you can find on the disc in addition to the film.  In a nod to Tim Burton’s own childhood, Super 8 Short is a special bonus feature which delves into the short films that Victor shoots with the help of his dog Sparky.  Director Tim Burton made similar super 8 films when he was growing up in Burbank, CA and they greatly influenced his career as he began working as an animator for Disney before getting his big break as a live action film director.

Check out the interview with Tim Burton after the jump. The following bonus clip from Captain Sparky Vs The Flying Saucers can be seen in its entirety on the Disney Frankenweenie disc:

Greatest Jerks of the Silver Screen: Mr. Joshua from Lethal Weapon (1987)

The evil General McAllister and Mr. Joshua, President of the Blade Runner fan club.

Aah, Gary Busey- a man who appears to be as gloriously unhinged offscreen as he is on. In early film roles Busey was a sheer delight to watch, mostly because his nuttiness, like the smell of pizza at Costco, permeates every scene in which he appears. In the film Lethal Weapon, audiences might have assumed that the craziest character featured would be the suicidal and reckless Vietnam veteran and LAPD officer Martin Riggs, played by Mel Gibson. They were wrong. When drug dealer Mr. Mendez (played by actor Ed O’Ross, who embodied an excellent jerk called “Viktor Rosta” in the 1980’s bargain bin masterpiece Red Heat (1988)) goes to the crooked General McAllister to make a heroin deal, he encounters McAllister’s bizarre bulldog of a henchman, the gloriously brain fried mercenary “Mr. Joshua.”

The Avengers top film for 2012

THE AVENGERS Takes Number 1 in John’s Top Ten

The movie year, 2012, has been questionable for quality film releases even with it’s nearly $11 billion dollar box-office take.  Struggling to choose the best films for my readers, I came up with the following list of 10 films (and three comedies I love from 2012). The followers that read my film critiques on a regular basis and give feedback tend to like most all genres from action to romance, fantasy to comedy and anywhere in between. My reviews of the films can be found in the archives of this website and relate accordingly to my top 10 choices for the audiences to which they are targeted.  Please do not hesitate to comment or leave me your picks of what you feel were the best in 2012.  Thank you for following me on Twitter, Facebook and this website and I wish everyone a Happy New Year and an enjoyable movie-going 2013.

Let’s Get Ready to WRECK-IT on March 5th!!!

Wreck-It Ralph is coming March 5th 2013

Got a quarter? It’s time to save the universe with the animated game-hopping arcade adventure, Wreck-It Ralph from Walt Disney Animation Studios. Something fun and unique about this release is that it’s a Disney first with the early release of the HD Digital and HD Digital 3D on February 12, 2013, followed by the 4-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, 2-Disc Blu-ray Combo Pack, DVD, SD Digital and On-Demand release on March 5, 2013.   The only format that Disney seems to have left out is VHS, which would be an appropriate format considering it’s technology perfectly dated to Ralph’s own.

Wreck-It Ralph takes viewers on a hilarious journey.  For decades, Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly) has played the bad guy in his popular video game. In a bold move, he embarks on an action-packed adventure and sets out to prove to everyone that he is a true hero with a big heart. As he explores exciting new worlds, he teams up with some unlikely new friends including feisty misfit, Vanellope von Schweetz (voice of Sarah Silverman).    The film is directed by Emmy®-winner Rich Moore. Click ahead to check out the details and bonus features included on the home video releases!
