We’ve seen this happen in the past – competing studios rushing to get similar-themed movies out in-time to compete at the box office. Armageddon and Deep Impact, The Illusionist and The Prestige, ANTZ and A Bugs Life, Mission to Mars and Red Planet, Iron Eagle and Top Gun, Volcano and Dante’s Peak – all basically identical movies that were released almost at identical times…need I go on!?!?

Now even though not all of the films in this particular mash-up were released in 3-D, what’s clear is this … action movies of recent years have seemed to fall into a rut of delivering almost the identical formula of visual effects and plot devices. The older I get, the more my immaturity seems to stand out. I still make prank phone calls, possess a knack for turning anything into sexual innuendo, and even have a friend who goes by the nickname “Mr. Belch”. But in all of my stunted psychology, I just couldn’t find a way to enjoy the fart fest that is American Reunion, available now from Universal Home Entertainment. It’s 1 hr and 53 mins (1 hr 54 mins for the “UNRATED version you couldn’t see in theaters!”) of a franchise trying way too hard to live up to its irrelevant and painful predecessors. Granted, the first American Pie was a nice return to the teen comedies of the 1980’s and managed to launch the careers of John Cho (Star Trek, Harold and Kumar) and Seann William Scott (Role Models, Ice Age). However, any series that struggles to get out from beneath the shadow of a kid screwing a pie is destined to suck no matter how many ways you try to up the ante.

Get a ‘CLUE’ on Blu-Ray

I remember going to the movies with my Dad to see CLUE back in December of 1985. Man, there’s just something about going to the movies around Christmastime that makes them seem extra special. I couldn’t wait to see this movie as I was (and still am) a big fan of the popular Parker Brothers board game of the same name.

In fact, CLUE is the ONLY board game I actually own today. It’s still sitting in my closet and hasn’t been opened in years. I should break it out sometime in the near future, but it’s not the kind of game that you play when you’re drinking with your buddies. It’s more of a concentration & thinking game … something that I have some trouble with these days. Thankfully, CLUE: The Movie doesn’t require a whole lot of concentration (or thinking for that matter), and is just as much fun as the game, except you’re not required to do anything but sit back & have a good time … and everybody wins!

So, needless to say, it felt like Christmas all over again when I opened up the box that our friends at Paramount Home Video had sent me and found my review copy of CLUE – it was even wrapped in colored tissue paper! Again, like a kid who couldn’t wait, I promptly removed the shrink wrap & popped it in my Blu-Ray player and let the good times roll (like dice!)

THE WATCH : An Overcooked, Wacky Comedy (Film Review)

The wacky film, The Watch, tries hard to entertain but sinks below average even with its fine cast of witty pro actors. The film struggles trying to make the scanty script work by upping the crude and rude level with a lot of off-color sight gags, a good measure of stupidity and strong sexual innuendos. The only reason for making the trek to your local theater to see The Watch would be if you just can’t get enough of Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill.

At this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, we not only had two of our most highest-trafficked web-series episodes shown at the MATTEL Matty Collector booth, but we managed to squeeze in a day to get a crew down to this year’s sold-out, 4-day event to meet many of our new fans and establish a presence amongst the 130,000 attendees. Guest Reporter Leslie Crystal, one of the stars of Felicia Day’s Award-winning web series about a group of online gamers called; The Guild, took to the convention floor. She chatted it up with some of the costumed guests who came out to unleash their inner-fan for some of their favorite television, film and animated entertainment properties.
