Beyond the Marquee fan, Jessie J, dropped us an e-mail yesterday while waiting for “The Walking Dead” panel to start up in Hall H at Comic-Con. She ran across this fun Facebook page called On The Set: The Movie Filming Locations Channel.

Jessie thought that with our involvement with the Back to the Future hoverboard promotion at the MATTEL booth this year, that we may enjoy this. She was right! It looks like Herve Attia, the filmmaker and creator of On The Set, has painstakingly dissected major scenes from the 1985 film, Back to the Future, and split-screened them with how the locations look today. It’s a pretty interesting comparison and they’ve even done some clever compositing of images and characters from THEN into the locations as they look NOW. Happy Friday the 13th, Doc! After watching that zombie/stripper film, I found myself in the mood for more of the risque. Well, as luck would have it, Jason X isn’t one of those “adult” parodies I enjoy so much… but it fits with the day, so what the hell. Widely regarded as the worst (and certainly the lowest grossing) in the series, the tenth “stab” at a Friday the 13th flick is so painfully putrid that even the Downtown Cinema’s audience couldn’t resist throwing their rum ‘n cokes at the screen (a.k.a. my TV set – more on that later). But is it really that bad? Aren’t these films kind of an easy target because there are so many unnecessary sequels? Am I just kicking a dead horse by reviewing a decade-old stinker?

You bet!!

Beyond The Marquee Invades Comic-Con 2012!

Great Scott!! The staff here at Beyond the Marquee think it’s far out that we’ve been given the honor to showcase our Exclusive Hoverboard videos at the MATTEL booth during this week’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Interest in making Hoverboards a reality has not waned for Back to the Future and sci-fi fans and MATTEL has taken a bold step this year – three years in advance – to bring Hoverboards to the public.

As part of the MattyCollector.com booth display showcasing the Hoverboard replicas (which will start shipping this Fall), Beyond the Marquee’s episodes covering the design effort that went into making the boards are now playing on a televised loop. With over 130,000 attendee’s slated for this year’s SOLD OUT event, that’s a lot of exposure for BTM and we’re thrilled!

The Greatest Lines in B-Movie History – THEY LIVE

The line of dialogue almost pales in comparison when brought to light against the backdrop of the absurd fight sequence between Rowdy Roddy Piper and Keith David, as the former tries to force the latter to put on a pair of sunglasses in a last-ditch effort to save the world from evil aliens. I swear to you, this is the simplest, clearest description I could provide of the scene and is a fairly accurate summary of the movie as a whole. So yes, in short, They Live is an absolute must-see.

One of the exciting things about Comic-Con are the large events held in the halls showcasing the upcoming Blockbuster films from various studios. Some presentations involve filmmakers (and sometimes the film’s cast), dazzling thousands of hungry fans with visual teases. From production images, sneak-peek footage, behind the scenes features, sizzle reels, and sometimes depending on how ahead of production a film may be by Comic Con, a new trailer is unveiled to the world. Today Walt Disney Studios debuted a more light-hearted classic B-movie style version of it’s upcoming stop motion animated film Frankenweenie (directed by Tim Burton). We also got our first glimpse at the magically colorful [and heavily CGI filled] world of OZ with the trailer for OZ: The Great and Powerful (directed by Sam Raimi). We’ve got them below for your viewing pleasure…and check back tomorrow to see what other trailers some of the other studios premiere.
