Has the Reality of Virtual Reality Failed?

Virtual reality is one of those pieces of technology that is hugely impressive, but it’s still not become a mainstream piece of kit. VR was talked about long before its time. Films which looked into the future and attempted to predict what new technology there would be, often mentioned a virtual reality world and this is still very much a possibility. When the technology dropped though, it failed to live up to expectations by a long way and in some cases you could say it failed.

But with the recent anticipation of the upcoming Spielberg film; “Ready Player One” in which a destitute society in the year 2045, finds escape thru the use of virtual reality into a world called the Oasis, it seems that VR may once again be ready to take the world by storm.

So said Liam Neeson’s wizened Jedi knight, Qui-Gon Jinn, in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Gambling runs rampant in the galaxy far far away. And never more so it seems than in the film franchise’s newest installment — Episode VIII: The Last Jedi. Trailers for the movie, which opens in December, feature an entire planet dedicated to wagering. It’s the latest and largest example of gambling and gaming in the Star Wars mythos, but it’s far from the first.

BTM Junior Reporter; Lindalee Rose recaps this past weekend’s special event of Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory LIVE!. FINN WOLFHARD (Stranger Things), JOHN STAMOS (Fuller House), ELLE KING, and “WEIRD AL” YANKOVIC and all-star cast gathered to sing the iconic songs from the film, as it played on the Hollywood Bowl’s movie screen, accompanied by LIVE musicians.

Friends and Family know that I am a huge fan of the Pirates of the Caribbean. As soon as the trailers for the movie started to come out for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, I was already clearing space on my home video shelf for it’s inevitable release. This movie for me did not disappoint and certainly redeemed itself for some weaker story-lines and misused characters from iterations in prior years. When we were asked to review this early for Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment I jumped at the assignment and present my findings below.

Are Movie-Based Video Games Cursed? Come to think of it, aside from a series of platform games based on Disney animated features and a series of slot machines at the Red Flush Casino, there’s no video game based on a movie that we could say it’s truly successful. Even the slots at the Red Flush are only seen by a limited audience – slot machine fans that is. At least they appreciate these games – the movie-based slots you can play at the Red Flush are constantly among the most popular ones there.

Although video game developers have over a century of movies to get inspired by, and game engines that ensure a realistic and immersive way to play, no movie-based video games have ever made it to the gaming world’s halls of fame. And we can’t expect any of them to be among the 5 video games to look out for in 2017. Are movie-inspired video games cursed to be unsuccessful?

Lindalee Rose is On the Scene for the red-carpet World Premiere of MARVEL’s The INHUMANS. Coming this FALL to ABC Television, this newest super-hero adventure series kicked off at the Universal Citywalk IMAX and Junior Reporter Lindalee Rose was on hand to talk to the cast and crew!

How does the cast handle working with a leading actor who has no lines in the entire series? What are some of their characters unique powers and abilities? And which Inhuman is stuck with cleaning up the poop from a 2000lb teleporting bulldog? These questions and more are covered in this fun and informative episode.
