Once Upon a Time “Fall”- Season 4 Episode 9 (TV Review)

Previously on Once Upon a Time… Emma came within a decision of dramatically changing her life forever by doing away with her magic, in order to protect the citizenry of Storybrooke from the Snow Queen and her powerful Spell of Shattered Sight.

Meanwhile the relationship between Robin Hood and Regina got intensified, while Operation Mongoose got placed on the back burner. Lastly, it was revealed that Rumplestiltskin’s newest agenda was to separate himself from the Dark One’s Dagger, and thereby be able to leave Storybrooke once and for all with his wife and grandson along for the journey.

One of the things that was alluded to before this episode was the fact that Gerda had written a note before their ship went underneath the seas. Since that development had been shown so much earlier, I was thankful to be reminded that Elsa’s parents might in fact not have been looking to remove Elsa’s powers, but had a different agenda altogether. The running narrative that Elsa’s parents were trying to take her powers from her had become the prevailing truth, but now that the bottle had made it’s way to the shore there might be more to the story. Lastly, to bring it back to Gerda’s sister, the Snow Queen had finally unleashed the Spell of Shattered Sight.

SEQUEL-TITLE-ITIS part 2: How to Improve Sequel Titling

P-booth-logo-dark-blue

A sequel by definition is unoriginal, so movie sequels already have one strike against them. Strike two comes from studios saddling them with unoriginal titles.

  • Cars 2
  • The Expendables 3
  • Paranormal Activity 4
  • Final Destination 5 (If they’re on the 5th film, then how final is this destination? Just saying.)

Humdrum titles like these do not instill audiences with confidence that the sequels themselves will be any good, though they are a great source for teaching kids how to count. The origins and motives for uncreative sequel titling are covered in the first part of this article, as is the case for creative sequel titling, so Analyze That…

Once Upon a Time “Smash the Mirror”- Season 4 Episode 8 (TV Review)

Previously on Once Upon a Time… Emma became fully aware how without training and control her magic could harm her loved ones. More specifically, the Snow Queen was able to manipulate Emma against her parents and in many respect her parents against her.

We saw what turned the once light magic that filled Ingrid, the Snow Queen’s heart into black magic, it was the isolation she felt from her sisters, and how Ingrid risked everything to protect her sisters from public scrutiny. Yet in the end it was the outside influence of the Duke of Wessleton, that penetrated the bond of sisterhood, that saw Ingrid into the urn, and her sister to the throne.

PENGUINS MAGAGASCAR poster

Penguins of Madagascar are Back! Cute and Cuddly as Ever (Film Review)

Cute, cuddly and comical Penguins of Madagascar puts on a good show for the kiddies and even us older folks. The story is quite silly, but that’s what makes this quartet of best buddies fun to watch. The soft CGI animation delivers a good look, especially the characters who are nice and squishy. Did I say that? Well anyway the film targets the right audience with tykes to teens loving all the humor that should even give dad and mom a few chuckles.
