Pee-wee’s Playhouse Coming to Blu-Ray NEXT Tuesday, but Catch a Sneak-Peek THIS Saturday!

Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series Blu-ray box set releasing from Shout! Factory on October 21, 2014

Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series Blu-ray box set releasing from Shout! Factory on October 21, 2014

Next Tuesday (October 21st) is the Home Video release of the new Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series Blu-ray set. Growing up as devout watcher of Saturday Morning kids TV in the 80’s & 90’s, Pee-wee’s Playhouse was the 11:00 hour show that started the close-out of the morning’s weekly entertainment ritual for me.

Pee-wee’s Playhouse wasn’t just a playground that sparked creativity and imagination in the hearts of millions of viewers, young and old, it was an educational, artistic and entertaining show that taught kids strong ‘life lessons’. It was a series that was ahead of its time with the vision and the creative freedom to experiment with new styles and techniques: combining live-action, puppetry, stop-motion and clay animation. The series was brimming with rich original characters, humor, innovative visual effects and production designs. Pee-wee Herman and Pee-wee’s Playhouse have been a staple in the pop culture zeitgeist ever since.

If like me, you screamed along to the SECRET WORD with Pee-wee Herman and found a connection with Jambi the Genie, Miss Yvonne, Cowboy Curtis, Reba the mail lady, Captain Carl, Magic Screen, Conky, Globey, Chairry, Pterri, Randy and many more, then Pee-wee’s Playhouse: The Complete Series is a MUST HAVE for your home-video collection!

All 45 wacky episodes, plus Pee-wee’s Playhouse Christmas Special, have been METICULOUSLY RE-MASTERED from the original film elements — and now YOU can see this ground-breaking series for the very first time in beautiful HIGH-DEFINITION!

If you can’t wait for next Tuesday, head to PeeweesPlayhouseSneakPeek.com on Saturday morning, October 18th at 10 am ET/7 to get a sneak peek at four episodes, newly remastered and now in brilliant high-definition, plus an exclusive premiere of one of ten brand-new bonus featurettes making their debut on the collection.

FURY poster

“Fury” Hell in a War Zone (Film Review)

Showing the violence, guts and destruction of WWII tank fighting, Fury punctuates the story with an explosive tale of death defying courage. Although fictional, the movie is based on the 2nd US Armored division and portrays extensive grisly combat using very realistic images. Explosive, gripping and pervasive the up close look is shattering and mind boggling. If you like war movies like Saving Private Ryan and Hamburger Hill, rush out to see this mind blowing war flick on the big screen.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Ep. 2.04: I Will Face My Enemy (TV review)

SHIELD-season-2-banner

The title of this week’s episode, I Will Face My Enemy, takes on double meaning with the emphasis on “double.” And “face.”

Director Coulson assumes agent duties once more by going undercover with Agent May in a two-to-tango team-up for old time’s sake. They’re also seeking to steal a “miracle painting” before rival Hydra agents nab it, the culmination of which results in the ol’ television trope that, for brevity’s sake, I’ll name:

The Hero-and-villain-disguised-as-hero-are-played-by-the-same-actor-so-ain’t-it-cool-to-watch-them-duke-it-out trope.

(You should’ve seen the long version.)

You can’t throw a rock at the sci-fi/fantasy/soap opera genres without hitting an evil twin or shape-shifter. Hundreds of shows have done it, from Smallville (Clark vs. Bizarro) to Seinfeld (Jerry vs. Bizarro Jerry). It’s a fun, but tired gimmick. And now it’s Coulson and company’s turn.

However, unlike most other series, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. does it so well that it feels brand new.

“Rudderless” Life Off Course (Film Review)

Taking a turn at directing William H. Macy offers a nicely acted drama with music and a little comedy called Rudderless. The indie movie, targeted for the adult crowd, takes you into the life of a family man who has to deal with the tragic loss of is son. It’s a gripping story that evolves into an emotional twist.
