GOOD LIE poster

“The Good Lie” a Shocking view of Inhumanity (Film Review)

A heartwarming and heartbreaking story of humanity in the face of adversity both in their original elements and in America, The Good Lie recalls the sorrow and travesty of the Sudanese children caught up in war.  The film stuns with disbelief, but it’s true and opens the doors to a view so bold it rattles the unthinkable with reality.  This is not a documentary or a historical movie. It’s a feature film that’s acted brilliantly by actual descendents of the children who were driven out of their homes to camps hundreds of miles away by a warring faction.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 2.02: Heavy is the Head (TV review)

SHIELD-season-2-banner

Usually we’re eased into a new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode with a few scenes of status quo before the quo is overturned by the plot. Or an episode begins with a mini-adventure, similar to an Indy film. This time, neither of those occurs. Instead, the second episode of the second season begins right where last week’s premiere ended. Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. doesn’t shake up its story structure much, but when it does the series feels fresh again.

GONEGIRL poster

“Gone Girl” a Baffling Crime Thriller (Film Review)

It may be a little long, get pretty dicey and turn your head in disgust, but Gone Girl will win you over in the end. The brilliantly written crime drama has this year’s top performances, creative direction and enough twists to curl a whole head of hair. From its cunning elementary opening the audience slowly gets sucked into this heinous story that’s fed from the realization that you want to dislike it, but can’t take your eyes off the screen.

What If Modern Day Female Hunter; Eva Shockey Had Been in THE HUNGER GAMES?

Eva Shockey is a famous modern female hunter

Eva Shockey is a famous modern female hunter

“I don’t know how else to put this: Make sure they remember you.” As the character Haymitch Abernathy voiced in the 2012 film The Hunger Games, in order for a tribute to have a fighting chance in the dystopian world Panem’s annual life-and-death game of survival, the chosen competitor must make a lasting impression, as heroine Katniss Everdeen of District 12 did in her first appearance in the Hunger Games.

But in comparing Panem to our modern world, who would be our Katniss? How would the Hunger Games have unfolded if “queen of the hunt” Eva Shockey had been a character in the series? Let’s face the fact that most of us would have gone down in the bloodbath at the Cornucopia, and though Katniss Everdeen definitely held her own, if Eva Shockey had been a tribute in the Hunger Games, she would have had four distinct advantages over Katniss (and the rest of us).
