COFFEEHOUSE SCREENWRITING 102: Caffeinated Writing on a Budget

P-booth-coffee-logo-4

If you’re looking for how to make passive characters active or how to cram writing in between day jobs and kids, then you’re in the wrong place.  For help with that, I recommend a great book with a title similar to this article — The Coffee Break Screenwriter by Pilar Alessandra.

This article isn’t about how to write.  This article is about where to write, particularly when public libraries keep bankers’ hours and you can’t afford to rent an office.  What’s left?  Coffee shops.

How do you find the best ones?  When are they the least crowded?  Is withholding a pee break a good motivator for finishing your work? (We’ll find out since that’s what I’m doing right now.)  Questions like these and more are answered in Coffeehouse Screenwriting 101.  Here in 102 we’ll discuss how to do all of this on a low/no budget.  Just like indie filmmaking.

TRAILER TUESDAY: Hercules, Annie, What If, Earth to Echo, The Book of Life, Snowpiercer & MORE!

Tom Cruise Makes Surprise Appearance at Monday’s Nerdist Screening of “EDGE of TOMORROW”

As part of the Nerdist Alliance, Beyond the Marquee was on-hand last night at Hollywood’s historic TCL Chinese Theater, for a the Nerdist’s special advance screening of Warner Brothers’ EDGE OF TOMORROW in 3D. Tom Cruise plays a military officer caught in a time loop and forced to repeat the same day over and over to beat back a swarm of bio-technological alien creatures bent on destroying humanity. Imagine if the movies Groundhog Day and The Matrix had a love child, it would be named “Edge of Tomorrow”.

Nerdist teamed up with Warner Brothers to give 900+ special attendees the chance to cut down their wait to see the film, which comes out this Friday, much the same way you’ll get to see Emily Blunt cut down invaders from another planet with a big ass sword. Nerdist host and creator Chris Hardwick introduced the film, then returned at the end of the movie as the credits began to roll to introduce the star of the feature itself, Tom Cruise. For the next 15 minutes, Tom talked to the audience about some of the behind the scenes challenges in making Doug Liman’s epic adventure film. Before heading out, Chris Hardwick asked to take a selfie with the star, which then resulted in the two of them being swamped by adoring fans, all of whom Tom spent the next 10 minutes taking pictures with.

Check out Tom Cruise (above) giving his own description of the film, and click below to see some of the selfies taken by Chris Hardwick and fans at last nights event.
