Win these pieces, featured in POPzilla’s 5th art show, “POPcade”

It’s FREE STUFF FRIDAY and our good pal Sam Carter who recently fooled the world with his April Fool’s poster of a Tim Burton version of Mary Poppins, is offering up some really cool pieces of original art to some lucky BTM Readers! These 3 pieces are part of the May 10th, opening night of POPzilla’s 5th art show, “POPcade”, the video game pop art tribute show. POPzilla will be featuring close to 75 artists as they take over Anaheim’s Rothck Art Haus.

The POPcade show is inspired by the old school and the new school video games, and even some mashed up with our typical brand of pop culture that POPzilla has become known for. They will also be featuring a series within the show called “Video Game Vixens” with each artists taking on a pin-up of their favorite video game babe. This is for sure to be POPzilla’s biggest show yet. In fact I think it is safe to coin the phrase “Orange County’s largest celebration of Video Game Pop Art …EVER!”.

Save the date for POPcade’s opening night reception, May 10th, 2014 at 6pm. It’s going to be huge and you won’t want to miss it.Be sure to check out more of Sam’s awesome creations as; SamCarterArt.com and https://www.facebook.com/SamCarterArt. NEIGHBORS poster

“Neighbors” Adequately Humerously Crazy (Film Review)

Welcoming the new neighbors; or not.  If you thought you saw wild and crazy in Project X and liked the movie, then it’s time to check out the Neighbors.  It’s a silly war between a frat that’s been kicked off campus and their next door family.  Although it has its moments and will probably rock the first weekend box office because of the young target market, the film stumbles over its own feet. Goofy, insane and outrageous are not used as complements here, especially after the first act.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Ep 21: Ragtag (T.V. review)

.

I always aim for these reviews to be around 600 to 800 words long, but they more than frequently end up being over 1,000. There’s so much packed into the average episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that it’s hard to critique it all without straining Microsoft Word’s Word Count tool. Take this week’s episode, for instance.

We learn Agent Ward’s backstory in regards to John Garrett. We learn of Garrett’s motivations for his Hydrated betrayal and his true reason for wanting the secret of Phil Coulson’s resurrection. Then there’s the fun of watching Coulson and May, disguised as science nerds, being fed science lingo via real science nerds Fitz-Simmons. Factor in fanboy Coulson geeking out over Trip’s vintage Howling Commando gear, as well as Fitz being the sole believer in Ward’s possible redemption, and we have an exciting episode that more than sets the stage for next week’s climatic season finale.

I could go into deep analysis of all this and more, but could I do it justice? Could I truly sum up what the episode is all about? And if I could, would that summary be contained within 600 to 800 words? I can confidently say yes to the first two questions. As for the third, I’m not so sure. I’d rather hedge my bets and bow down to the old adage, “A picture is worth 1,000 words.”  Bearing that in mind, here is this week’s full review…

GIGOLO poster

“Fading Gigolo” a Fare Affair (Indie Film Review)

Expanding his repertoire with a fifth movie under his direction, John Turturro opens this weekend with Fading Gigolo.  The vibrant and touching comedy has a commendable cast that delivers a sweet script with acceptable production values.  Although there are noticeable problems with uneven direction, the film still climbs to above average entertainment. If you like movies that are highly fictional yet imaginative enough to touch on reality, then this is your cup of tea.
