Over 100 alien artifacts were recovered after the Avengers’ “Battle of New York” and one is still unaccounted for. That’s the underlining theme behind Marvel’s Avengers short, Item 47, directed by Marvel co-president, Louis D’Esposito. In this digital short, a young couple get their hands on one of the lost alien weapons of the Chitauri Warriors (whose race attacked the Avengers during the infamous Battle of New York). The couple manage to make the gun work, heading out on a Bonnie and Clyde spree of mayhem and disaster, proving that human greed and alien technology just don’t mix.
Pursued by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents assigned to stopping the duo and retrieving Item 47, the film is a fun, yet action packed mini-expansion of the Avengers movie universe. Click below for a larger look at the Exclusive version of the poster that Marvel will be giving out at Comic-Con, and get details on how this Friday night you can attend a super-secret screening of the film itself.
Beginning on Friday, July 13th, a series of clues provided by an easy and FREE download of the Avengers Second Screen app (available from the iTunes store), will kick-off a hunt starting Friday morning all throughout San Diego. In anticipation of the upcoming home entertainment release of Marvel’s The Avengers (on 9-25-12), Marvel is unleashing this all-new alternate reality game (ARG) that ultimately will grant the first 300 fans access to the exclusive screening Friday night of ‘Item 47’, a Marvel One-Shot Fan Experience, a copy of the Item 47 poster, as well as a Special Filmmaker/Talent Q&A To Follow.
Fans will be able to start solving special codes from the Avengers Second Screen app, that when unlocked, will guide them to their next clue. The App will also have a built-in map of the Gas Lamp District in Downtown San Diego that will guide them to their location spots. There will be a total of 4 spots. Fans must complete the entire ARG experience in order to redeem access to the special screening.
If you enjoyed the Comic-Con FLYNN LIVES Scavenger Hunt Disney put-on a couple years back that led to the END OF LINE club to promote the film TRON: LEGACY, then you will certainly enjoy this one as well. If you can’t make it to San Diego’s Comic-Con to join in the Scavenger hunt, no worries, the Item 47 short will be available in September on The Avengers DVD. If you ARE one of the lucky 300 who make it to the screening, please be sure to drop us a line and share your experience with your fellow Beyond the Marquee readers!
