MARQUEE MAMA Reviews Disney/PIXAR’s FINDING NEMO 3-D (Film Review)

MARQUEE MAMA reviews FINDING NEMO 3-D

My daughter and I had a bet going into this movie:  which scene would be the best to watch now that “Finding Nemo” has gone 3D?  She bet on the jelly fish forest while I went with the ride on the EAC.  We were both wrong.  And right!  “Finding Nemo 3D” makes it near-impossible to choose a winning scene.  The entire visual experience is fantastic!

Marquee Mama’s Family Rating for FINDING NEMO 3-D

I am rarely a fan of 3-dimensional technology, often finding it a hokey technique to mask a weak script.  But this is time I will go so far as to say “Finding Nemo” should have been presented in 3D when it was originally released in 2003.  I saw Nemo (about 100 times) when it was first released, but never like this.  The 3D version really feels like you’re underwater, with the ever-present little specks of ocean stuff floating around and the occasional rays of sun that pierce the surface of the sea.  Any scuba diver will appreciate these 100 minutes.

The movie itself has utterly stood all tests of time.  It could easily compete with any family film released today and likely be even more beloved.  The classic Nemo moments are still fresh and clever and quite hilarious.  The intelligent, witty remarks like “Yes, I’m a natural Blue,” by Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres) make me wonder which lines were scripted and which may have been improvised by this great cast.

I suggest anyone who may have been exposed to the original Nemo take a fresh look at the 3D version.  “Finding Nemo 3D” is absolutely worthy of this re-release and will warm your family’s heart anew.

Incidentally, my pick for the best 3D scene goes to Dory’s bloody nose!

What I loved:

• No Dramamine necessary! (except possibly for the scene inside the whale)

• Clever – and relevant – lines like “It’ll be a piece of kelp!”

• Hatching the escape plan is awesome!  You’ve never experienced rolling around in a plastic bag quite like this.

• Dory speaking “Whale” is still great comedy.

• The visual clarity of being in the ocean and the aquarium is an absolute joy to watch.  Someone has worked hard to make this a very pretty picture.

• The G rating.  It’s appropriate and too rare in family films today.

What I didn’t love:

• Can’t think of a thing!  This, my friends, is a Marquee Mama first.
