Set Sail With TITANIC 3-D – (Blu-ray Review)

Titanic-3d Blu-Ray

Now available from Paramount Home Video!

It’s been 100 years since the tragic sinking of the RSS Titanic. Several movies have been made about that fateful night, but none, in my opinion, have had the impact of James Cameron’s epic masterpiece…

This week, our friends at Paramount Home Video are releasing the Oscar winning blockbuster, Titanic, for the first time ever on Blu-Ray. But not just any ordinary Blu-Ray…a jaw-dropping 3-D version of the film!

Titanic 3-D Blu-Ray

The Titanic sets sail in the third dimension!

In case you’ve been living under an iceberg for the last fifteen years, the movie is about an unsinkable ocean liner that was on it’s maiden voyage from Southamton, England to New York in 1812. Aboard the ship were Jack (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Rose (Kate Winslet)…and one really big diamond! Through a series of circumstances, and amid  a mix of rich snobs and poor immigrants, they fell in love. Unfortunately, it was short lived, because on the night of April 10th, the ship hit an iceberg…and sank (Okay, so it was sinkable.) It’s a story of survival and true love, all set to a haunting score, great CGI, fine performances, flawless direction and pure cinematic blockbuster epicness.

The Titanic didn’t just go down in the Atlantic, it went down in movie history when Titanic opened in theatres in 1997…and took the world by storm.

In 2012, James Cameron felt his film needed some extra depth, and re-released the movie, but this time in the third dimension.

How does the Blu-Ray look?

In a word: AMAZING. Really. For a fifteen year old film that was never meant to be seen in 3-D, you’d never know it. From the first frame to the last, there was so much depth to the image, I was stunned. Few 3-D Blu-Ray’s look this good. Apparently, TITANIC was meant for the third dimension. The colors are nice and rich, and like the 3-D image, they really do stand out beautifully in High definition. If you have 3-D capability and love this film as much as I do, it’s a no-brainer. Go out and pick this baby up now.

How’s the sound?

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 lossless soundtrack is just as impressive as it’s image. From the glorious soundtrack, the ocean waves crashing about, to creaks, explosions and moaning from the sinking ship, my ears were eating up Titanic 3-D’s phenomenal audio presentation!

With superb picture and sound and a cavalcade of special features, I’m both wiped out and in awe of this Blu-Ray package from Paramount…it’s a must own and has great re-watch value. What more can I say? Titanic 3-D  is the king of the world!

This is one of my favorite movies of all time, so I was a little bit concerned when I heard they were releasing it in 3D. Let me tell you that all of my fears were unwarranted and they really did a great job in the update. I was talking to a coworker at Dish who didn’t even know they re-released it, and I think that there should be a lot more buzz around it. The 3D was amazing, and should we have expected any less after Avatar. I was so excited to see that it was coming out on Blu-Ray that I when I heard I instantly went online and added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue. I love being able to rent 3D Blu-Ray’s to try them out because my older HDTV doesn’t work with some of the new ones. I am glad to say that I was able to watch this today, and I was blown away! It is the best movie watching experience I have ever had in my home.
