The Future Has Arrived!!! Look for our Replica Hoverboard review later this weekend!!!

The Matty Collector HoverBoard has Arrived! (pictured) Steve Czarnecki; Beyond the Marquee’s Founder and Creative Director.

This morning a large box sat on my doorstep from Mattel Toys, and low and behold, upon opening it discovered the Matty Collector replica prop Hoverboard from Back to the Future, Part 2. We’ll be reviewing it up this weekend and will have something to report on by the end of the weekend! Will it look, feel and sound as authentic as what we remember from the movies? Did all the filmmaker notes, convention sneak peek feedback and fan forum inputs over the past year all culminate in the MUST HAVE collector’s toy of 2012? We’ll let you know! And a reminder that the Hoverboard prop replicas go back on sale Monday, December 3rd 9 a.m. PT (12 noon ET)! If you missed the pre-order opportunity earlier this year, we are told there are limited quantities available for $130 (but they don’t include the mini-Hoverboard included only with pre-orders).

Check out our BTM episode at Mattel studios featuring BTTF co-writer/producer Bob Gale as he meets with the Matty Collector design team with his collection of screen-used Hoverboards from Back to the Future Part 2.

About the Hoverboard Prop Replica: Developed in conjunction with the original films’ special effects supervisor, Michael Lantieri, prop maker/special effects expert, Mary Anne Lantieri, and the co-producer and co-writer of the trilogy, Bob Gale, and fully sanctioned by Universal Studios, this is a 1:1 scale model (measures approximately 28″ x 8″ x 3″). Our Hoverboard is based on the best features of the more than 30 slight variations of Hoverboard props used in the classic film series, and includes authentic “whooshing” sounds sampled directly from the films and a deco featuring Mattel logos just like in the films. And although full hovering technology isn’t expected until 2015, be assured your Hoverboard will gently glide over most level surfaces (it will not, however, work on water).
