This holiday season what do you get the movie lover that has EVERYTHING? Well, honestly, there’s no way that a movie lover has everything, right? Well, get him or her (or them) a copy of Titan Books‚ JAWS: Memories From Martha’s Vineyard to proudly put on their coffee table! Why you ask? Well, quite frankly, it’s one of the most comprehensive books ever published about the making of JAWS, Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic about a shark that wouldn’t quit. Read ahead for more about the book and how to order this today…
The filming of the blockbuster film JAWS is regarded as a landmark event in both the history of motion pictures and the quaint New England island of Martha’s Vineyard, where the geographic isolation necessitated the hiring of hundreds of locals to work as actors and laborers. Among this virtual army of hometown participants were numerous professional and amateur photographers, each with full access to the production’s inner workings—for the first time ever this compiles their behind-the-scenes photographs and stories into a treasure trove of Jaws rarities.
Included are a foreword by director Steven Spielberg, interviews with production designer Joe Alves, screenwriter Carl Gottlieb, location casting director Shari Rhodes, and more, providing an unprecedented all-access pass to the creation of some of the most memorable and terrifying scenes in film history. This unique compendium is the first to focus on the production’s local participants, telling their stories at last.
Sure, we’ve all heard the stories of this crazy, trouble filled shoot on the beaches and waters off of Martha’s Vineyard in 1974, and this book and it’s many, wonderful colorful pictures speak louder than the words printed on it‚s 312 pages. From an island unprepared for a Hollywood movie, to inclement weather, malfunctioning props, and locals cast as extras, this was a film unlike any ever made before.
Bask in the glory of of REAL filmmaking under pressure as the young Spielberg leading an all-star cast that included Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss, as they barely kept their heads above water dealing with a problematic mechanical shark named Bruce.
Author Matt Taylor leaves no stone unturned as you turn every page of this colorful, insightful book! You get a real sense of the struggles of the filmmaking process as you are taken behind the scenes in some very rare and never before seen photographs which pull you into the classic film in a way never before experienced. Really loved the images that show you close ups of the iconic props, beautiful New England locations and of course Bruce the shark out of the water.
I can never truly get enough of that kooky shark and being that this is one of my all-time favorite films, it’s a MUST HAVE! In fact, I’ve read this book twice already since acquiring it from our good friends at Titan Books.
It’s a JAWS-lover’s dream and one thing’s for sure once you own it, you’re gonna need a bigger coffee table!
