So over the weekend we discovered that J.D. Ryan, the editor of the 2007 hit film, ‘TMNT,’ has created a new website showcasing some of his work over at johndamienryan.com. Included on the site is something that might be of interests to fans of “TMNT,” the films original opening that’s never been seen before! Based on images from the original comic book, the opening was cut down prior to the films release . Interesting fact reading his bio, he’s apparently been working for the last few years with George Lucas on an untitled animated feature! What the heck could that be!?!? The first teaser trailer to the 2007 Warner Bros. Feature Film, “TMNT” produced by IMAGI. TMNT was to originally have a comic book style opening to the film. Given a copy of the first TMNT Issue, JD put together this opener. This was one of the last test versions of the opener before it was cut down for time. Edited by J.D. Ryan

John Damien Ryan has a long history of working in feature films, starting with Tim Burton’s James and the Giant Peach. This film started a long relationship for Mr. Ryan with The Walt Disney Studios.  

Mr. Ryan started his editing career in Visual Effects at Disney on features like Reign of Fire and Kangaroo Jack. In 2005, he left Disney to help start up the Los Angeles production offices of IMAGI Animation. There he worked as Lead Editor on the Warner Bros. feature TMNT (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles). The film opened at #1 in the U.S. box office and grossed more than $95 million worldwide.  

Mr. Ryan later returned to his Disney roots to work with two-time Academy Award nominated producer Don Hahn. Together, they worked on the award-winning Disney Animation documentary Waking Sleeping Beauty, as well as other films before Mr. Ryan was recruited by Lucasfilm Animation. At Lucasfilm, he worked side by side with legendary filmmaker George Lucas.  

Mr. Ryan currently resides in Glendale, Ca., with his wife, two kids and four cats.

 

With the new TMNT movie coming out and the new Nickelodeon TV series out, it seems like a lot of cool Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle lost media from past incarnations are coming out of the woodwork, or in this case the radiated sewers, what do you think of this original opening?
