EPIC is EPIC FUN!

Steve C here and I’m declaring that EPIC is a MUST SEE! We recently received a copy for review and to my surprise, and the surprise of the entire household, we now have a new family favorite! I had missed EPIC in theaters and to be honest, the kids weren’t pushing me to see this film, maybe it was the marketing, maybe the lack of hype, but upon watching it this weekend, we were pretty blown away. From the creators of Ice Age, EPIC is now on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Deluxe Edition Blu-ray, and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. Directed by Chris Wedge (The Ice Age Franchise) and featuring an amazing voice cast including Colin Farrell, Amanda Seyfried, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Steven Tyler, Pitbull, and Beyoncé. Synpsis: Transported to a magical world, a teenager (Amanda Seyfried) is recruited by a nature spirit, Queen Tara (Beyoncé Knowles), to help the “Leafmen” save their existence – and ours – from evil warriors. The whole family will love this fast-paced thrill-ride, with its astonishing animation and all-star voice cast that includes Colin Farrell, Oscar® Winner Christoph Waltz, and Steven Tyler!

BTM Review:  It’s hard to find a movie the 3 kids in my house will sit down and watch, thats incredibly hard with a 1,3 and 5 year old, plus add 2 busy and usually very tired parents! EPIC delivered. We were unsure what to expect because we didn’t know much about the film, never ventured to the theater to see it and only saw a portion of the films marketing in the way of some Happy Meal toys from McDonalds the kids all got one weekend during a trip to see Grandma. What we discovered this weekend is a lost gem, a film that slipped thru the cracks and went under appreciated. An animated adventure with not just heart and meaning, but fun and family values. If you love the Ice Age movies from Blue Sky studios, expect the same level of detail and production excellence of those films. We were amazed at how much was paid attention to colors, textures, lighting and depth in this film. One of the most clear, crisp and beautiful films we’ve watched on Blu-ray in years and the visuals accompanied a truly fun story and amazing characters with a unique lifelike look I’ve never seen in an animated movie before. It’s not just the characters who are the stars here, it’s also the forest and animals who come to life in unimaginable ways and whose detailed textures and vivid colors pop off screen and will make you appreciate every penny you spent on a Blu-ray player and this film. When it comes to sound, you’ll notice things the 3rd time around (yes, we’ve watched this a few times now in just 2 days) that you missed before. Just close your eyes and gain a new found respect for the audio engineers who painstakingly created, recorded and mixed this film’s audio track. The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio will blow you away. Pure, crisp, clean, and creative, the mix of bees, birds, trees and slugs equally rival that of the professors home laboratory of viles, computer monitors, a crazy dog and creaky wooden floorboards. Danny Elfman provided the score which was a refreshing escape from his dark and mysterious scores and brought to life a light, fun and traditional sort of soundtrack that complimented this movie perfectly. If you missed this in theaters, give it a chance, I really think you’ll be more than pleased with the purchase and will be including a new treasure in your home library for years to come.
