Sebastian: “I MAKE friends. They’re toys. My friends are toys. I make them. It’s a hobby. I’m a genetic designer.”
In the universe of the 1982 sci-fi film noir classic Blade Runner, the character of J.F. Sebastian (William Sanderson) spoke of how he created remarkable “living” toys and human-like figures (aka replicants) — and in our own, artist Scott Pettersen is mirroring Sebastian in a way: by bringing stunning, 12″ figure replicas of the Blade Runner characters “to life”.
Gaff: “Lófaszt! Nehogy már! Te vagy a Blade, Blade Runner!”
I’m pleased to share exclusive photos of Pettersen’s latest addition to his Blade Runner ensemble — a figure of Gaff, the cardinal character played by Edward James Olmos in the film, which will soon available be available via Pettersen’s site: spettersenart.blogspot.com — in a very limited edition of only 30 figures.
Check back soon to Beyond the Marquee for an article in which I chat with Pettersen about his creative process and inspiration for making these fantastic Blade Runner figures!
