E.T. Replica Stunt Prop Puppet (Product Review)

E.T. Foam Home...

E.T. Foam Home…

I admit it, I am a HUGE fan of the movie E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, it ranks within my personal top 10 greatest movies of all time. I was 9 when the film came out…and by then I was so in love with sci-fi and aliens and fascinated by other worlds that this movie became an instant favorite the opening weekend when my mom took me to see it. I connected to the warmth, adventure and mystery of this movie in an emotional way, and E.T. won his way into my heart forever. As most kids during the time of the films release, I was caught up in the marketing blitz of toys, magazines, books, action figures, puzzles, collector cards, light up rubber fingers and more. I cherished my collection and vowed as the years passed that one day I’d pass it down to my own kids so they could enjoy it all as much as I had. 30 years later I have found myself doing just that. It gives me great joy to share with my children the movie and the items that kept the magic of that film alive for me for many years after it’s release, and watching them fall in love with E.T. for themselves. If you share a love for the film as large as I do, you’ll be excited to know that now E.T. can be a part of your life forever because over at Entertainment Earth, you can buy your own life size E.T. the Extra Terrestrial Stunt Puppet Prop Replica. I just got mine and I’ve got a review to go with it, read ahead…

E.T. the Extra Terrestrial was a movie unlike any other and to this day still generates emotional responses from fans of all ages. I shared almost an immediate connection to the character of Elliot, he was a year older than me, had a love for Star Wars figures, was interested in the solar system and like any pre-teen kid was dealing with the pressures of school, family issues and trying to find his way in the universe. So when a strange, magical and out of this world new friend arrives to give him a purpose and fill his life with adventure, Elliot volunteers without hesitation. Who wouldn’t? Though E.T. had to go back home at the end of the film leaving Elliot behind on Earth with fond memories of his new alien friend, now you can have E.T. with you always, in your home, your office, or in the garage (this may depend on your girlfriend or wife’s decorative taste).

Warning! This Prop Replica is truly for the serious collector. Though $249 may seem pricy, it is well worth it for the amazing scale, quality, weight and detail of the piece, which I’ve detailed below…

Just staring at the face, it is spot on, the wrinkles, the shading, the eyes…it’s perfect. The most perfect prop replica of E.T. you could ever hope for. It measures nearly 3-feet tall, made of foam rubber and latex, with meticulous hand-painted detail. Nothing has been overlooked on this fantastic figure, which features detailed skin texture, life-like eyes, and is soft to the touch. As Elliot said in the film “I’m keeping him”, and I’ll be keeping my E.T. in my home, for many years to come.

NOTE: The production of this piece is a very limited run, which means that if you miss out on getting it now, not only will it not be sold again, but odds are you’ll be paying 3 times as much for it on ebay years down the road.

Now before you get too excited because its called a “stunt puppet”, unfortunately it’s fragile and you can’t move it or articulate it in any position other than the form it arrives in. A stunt “stand-in/lighting double” is more of an accurate name than stunt puppet. No telescoping head, no hand that can raise to your forehead to recreate the “I’ll be right here” line…sorry. But as you’ll see from the pics below, you can still be creative and have some fun with your replica E.T., and with a little help from your kids it makes it worth every penny of the purchase.

Word of caution…if you do have smaller children in your house who do not yet know their boundaries or have an appreciation for expensive prop replicas, keep your E.T. elevated and out of reach. They will want to hug it, move it’s arms, play with his neck…all things I anticipated the night I opened mine. So the next morning I was quick to place it on a large fake plastic wooden stump (I know it’s uncommon to have, but I do own one, I work in the Entertainment biz) and hot glued some fake vines around it. Now E.T. sits atop it and is out of the way from curious infants and destructive toddlers.

As you can tell I’m having a lot of fun with my E.T. in my home. I purchased the NECA Brown Gremlin Prop Replica a couple years back and it’s another of my favorite pieces, these guys really have outdone themselves and are hopefully on a roll here with more limited edition foam/latex replicas in the years to come. On my wish list (NECA reps take some notes) a life-size prop replica of Slimer from “Ghostbusters”, Audrey II from “Little Shop of Horrors” and Gollum from “Lord of the Rings”. I’ll be happy to review those and recreate scenes in my home with them when you’re ready, just let me know!

    Hey!

Great review, thanks for that! Love your “re-enactment photos”, they look fabulous!
Got mine just yesterday, and probably really need to re-locate the little guy, because my 3-year old hugged him the first time he saw him.
