Once Upon a Time

Previously on “Once Upon A Time”… Peter Pan’s devious schemes to unleash the full power of Regina’s original curse became revealed. With all of the major characters reunited would their loyalties and romances be strengths or weaknesses? In the Winter Finale episode, the race is on to stop Pan from enacting another curse on the residents of Storybrooke, which could kill every living soul in town, on “Once Upon a Time,” Read ahead for our recap and review…

This chapter of Once Upon a Time centers around Peter Pan and his son Rumpelstiltskin along with the familial relationships between Emma, Henry, and the rest of their families. Peter Pan was willing and fully capable of doing was necessary to enact that spell and make all of Storybrooke subservient to him. This commitment is first demonstrated when Pan reaches inside’s Felix’s check to grab his heart. By putting in the ashes of Felix’s heart it initiated the curse.

Only through this significant turning point could the midpoint pinch later be realized. That dynamic conclusion that Peter Pan came to with his son, Rumple was one of finality. Pan cast a spell on the core fairy tale characters, which froze them in space, as Pan exacted revenge upon his son. Sadly to the dismay of Belle and Rumple’s son, Neal, they were devastated when Rumple grabbed the Dark One’s Dagger and stabbed both Pan and himself at the same time killing both their humanly bodies and their shadows.

With Tinkerbell reclaiming her identity, maybe her new found inner strength and power, will empower her to make a difference in the new fairy tale world order.

The after effects of their deaths were highly consequential, and even more problematic, for although it gave Regina the ability to defeat the curse that she had created in the Enchanted Forrest. In defeating the curse though it meant several things that alone would carry weight, but when looked at in totality of each other completely changed the paradigm from where the show was heading to where it could be going.

For the vast majority of characters, including the prominent ones such as: Prince Charming, Snow White, The Evil Queen Regina, Belle, Baelfire (Neal), and Captain Hook, the breaking of the curse meant two things that carried great magnitude. First and foremost, now since Storybrooke was created through the curse with the curse defeated, it would cease to exist, and with it all of the memories that they had made in their time there. Secondly, it meant that for all of the characters that were born outside of our reality in their own stories, that they would all go back to their original stories.

Although one might think that this would be a great opportunity for them to reset all that had transpired since the curse had been enacted; however, for all of the liberties they were stripped of for so long, they were able to reclaim their dignities. Now the dynamics will go back exactly to the way that they were and with it all of the conflict between the good and the evil. However, with Snow White alluding to fairy tales and they hope that they represent it’ll only be a matter of time. Snow White reminds us that, “They are a reminder that our lives will get better if we just hold on to hope.”

Even more consequential then that is the fact that since Emma and Henry stories began in America, they would be forced to be left behind. Now again that wouldn’t be a true problem had they been able to retain the memories and the experiences and the knowledge about where they came from. Although Emma was happy to finally get a chance to press the rewind with Henry by her side; however, she lost her parents again when she only knew them for what seemed to be a minute in her life. She made the point that now every happy

From a romantic standpoint, by having to go into the rest of normal civilization, Emma lost the opportunity to rekindle her love with Neal, or to explore further with Captain Hook. The whole season there had been the competitive dynamic between the two men in respect to pursuing Emma. After Emma drove away from Henry, with the curse defeated, after year she planted her self in a nice town house.

The big turning point came when Captain Hook of all people came to the door, and told Ms. Swan that her family was in peril. Out of a lack of awareness as to who he is she defended herself and sent him home crying. In the preview for the back half of the season that’s where the real fun begins for me.

After seasons of longing for her appearance, and possibly the land that she hails from, the Wicked Witch of the West has the potential to change their Emma and Henry's future forever.

After seasons of longing for her appearance, and possibly the land that she hails from, the Wicked Witch of the West has the potential to change their Emma and Henry’s future forever.

In the preview we see Snow White summoning all of her allies, but above all else what made me jump out of my seat in excitement was seeing the Wicked Witch of the West make an appearance. Oz has long been a place that I thought that the writers could take the series to, but more importantly coming back to Emma I wonder a great many of things. One of the interesting developments was that Tinkerbell finally believed in herself, and so she was granted her wings back and the magic that comes with them. Will Tinkerbell’s new strength help embolden Emma?

Will Emma reclaim her identity as the Savior?

Will Snow White and Prince Charming defeat the evil forces that are coming?

How will Emma and Henry be reunited with their friends and family?

Tune in in March to find out the dynamic conclusion to an already fantastic season!!!
