If you’ve ever been bullied and wished the worst on your tormentors, then the latest novel by “Back to the Future” co-creator/writer/producer Bob Gale is exactly you’ve been waiting for. Retribution High combines elements of “Carrie” and the “Friday the 13th” movies with Clint Eastwood’s “High Plains Drifter” and puts them into a contemporary high school setting, with some “Tales From The Crypt” sprinkled in as well.
For this interview, we sent Beyond the Marquee’s own AJ Locascio (the voice of Marty McFly in the popular Telltale Video Game version of Back to the Future ) as he seemed like the perfect host to sit down with Bob to discuss his new book. But be forewarned … as Gale explains to our audience in the above video … Retribution High is dark, twisted, violent, nasty and harsh. It’s not politically correct. It’s not for everybody. And it’s not family entertainment. It’s a high school horror tale in which the bad kids get what they really deserve. Retribution High is available in two versions. For the first time ever, an author is making his novel available in the equivalent of a PG-13 version (Standard – green border) and an X-rated version (Explicit – red border). Now you can choose how extreme you want your reading experience to be. After all, movies, video games and music lyrics carry ratings, so why not books? And with Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature, you can read the first two chapters of each version free, and get an idea of which version is right for you.

I’m already to chapter 8 in the book and it’s got me wondering if some of the things happening are historical or biblical. Because at first I thought it was supposed to be Jesus as J.B but then I wondered if he was sent from hell. Now that I’ve gotten further along I’ve started wondering if he’s just a martyr or someone based on the Julius Caesar story. I keep telling myself that Bob just wrote it off the top of his head but my mind won’t let it go. It keeps telling me there’s a historical significancenter in this book.
Very cool, AJ loCascio does a MEAN Marty McFly impression…and I want the explicit version of the novel, dammit!
