The Batmobiles from 1966 to Present

While it’s true that superheroes are magnificent in their own right, the truth is, sometimes the vehicles that they drive bring these iconic figures to an all new level of awesomeness.

And while there have been a fair share of unforgettable cars, trucks, planes, and completely unidentifiable modes of transportation, a few have lasted through the ages and have become a recognizable part of superhero culture.

THE BATMOBILE

Easily one of the most recognizable and well-known superhero vehicles is the sleek, dark car that is often as mysterious and elusive as its owner. And although it has gone through dozens of iterations and remakes between all of the different media sources that it has appeared in, one thing has remained the same: it is one of Batman’s most reliable and versatile tools at his disposal and nearly every child who has watched the caped crusader has wanted a Batmobile of his very own.

FANTASTICAR

This advanced flying transport of the Fantastic Four has also gone through a few design changes since its original appearance in 1962, but has always stood out as a technological marvel. Sleek, bulletproof, and said to be able to go from New York to Siberia in a matter of minutes, it offers a vertical take-off, is powered by jet turbines, and can split into multiple parts allowing the team to adapt to different situations on the fly, so to speak.

HELL CYCLE

Created by an extra-dimensional demon for exclusive use of the bounty hunter and vigilante Ghost Rider, this easily identifiable motorcycle reacts to its owner’s presence by igniting its wheels into flaming discs and leaves a trail of fire in its wake. Oh, and don’t forget the little added bonus of not conforming to those silly laws of gravity that other vehicles are bound by; you will often see bike and rider scaling the side of buildings with ease and speed.

BLACK BEAUTY

This classic monster car belonging to the Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato is not so much a vehicle as an arsenal on wheels. Modeled after a 1966 Chrysler Imperial, the modified car has a wide variety of weaponry ranging from non-lethal knock-out gas to rocket launchers. It also has homing and tracking sensors as well as a plethora of defensive capabilities to help the duo escape tricky situations, not to mention the “infra-green” vision capabilities to see in the dark.

OPTIMUS PRIME

The leader of the Transformers might not necessarily be considered a vehicle in the standard sense, but he has often carried passengers when in truck form. His trademark trailer is nearby filled with weapons, accessories, and other paraphernalia, some of which even lets him fly.

Now while it’s true that most of these vehicles are, at best, way out of the average person’s budget and, at worst, nothing more than the result of wild imagination, the sad fact is that most people will never own a superhero vehicle. You can, however make improvements to your current vehicle that might bring you one step closer. Quality tires can give you traction and control when maneuvering through tight spots and in rough weather. Custom paint and decals can transform your plain car into a mirror image of your favorite hero’s ride. And some places can help you design your own vehicle to mimic your hero or design one of your very own.
