Beyond the Marquee: The Web-Series (Episode 13): HOLLYWOOD LEGENDS AUCTION

If you love Movies and you love Television and you have some extra money to burn this weekend, then we offer this suggestion up to you; the Hollywood Legends auction presented by Julien’s Auctions of Beverly Hills. With over 1,000 pieces on display from over 100 years of Tinsel-Town, there’s a little something for everyone. Beyond the Marquee’s own Steve Czarnecki was on hand this week to get a sneak peek at this amazing line-up of costumes, props and memorabilia up for bid.

Julien’s Auctions presents their 2012 Hollywood Legends auction to be held on Saturday, March 31 and Sunday, April 1st in Beverly Hills, California.

This stunning auction contains over 800 items of Hollywood memorabilia and Historic Americana items. The Golden Age of Hollywood and beyond will be sold. Highlights include a Charlie Chaplin iconic bowler hat (Est. $30,000/$50,000), Charlie Chaplin cane (Est. $20,000/$30,000) and Charlie Chaplin film-worn suit (Est. $20,000/$30,000) including a number of his own personal items originating from family members and the Estate of Charlie Chaplin.

Other highlights include Clark Gable’s riding jacket from Gone With The Wind, (Est. $20,000/$30,000), a tuxedo jacket worn by Judy Garland in A Star Is Born, (Est. $10,000/$15,000), a Charlton Heston screen worn robe (Est. $30,000/$50,000) and screen-used staff (Est. $20,000/$30,000) from The Ten Commandments, Marilyn Monroe platoons worn in River of No Return (Est. $20,000/$30,000) and a vintage Christian Dior gown worn by Grace Kelly, known more famously as Princess Grace of Monaco (Estimate: $10,000/$20,000).  The original prop tablets from The Ten Commandments are also up for auction and will no doubt ignite serious bidding among deep-pocketed collectors.

Also hitting the auction block are: a Catherine Walker gown designed for Princess Diana (Estimate: $80,000/$100,000), a signed catalogue from the Princess Diana sale (est. $4,000/$6,000), Margaret O’Brien’s red coat from Meet Me In St. Louis (Estimate: $4,000/$6,000) and Richard Gere’s hat from An Officer and a Gentleman  (Estimate: $2,000/$4,000). As part of the museum’s massive Hollywood posters collection, Julien’s Auctions will also offer a selection to include original posters from legendary films like Casablanca, (Estimate:$8,000/$10,000), Gone With the Wind, (Estimate: $3,000/$5,000), Some Like it Hot, (Estimate: $2,000/$3,000) and many more.

From the early start of films to today’s action heroes, Julien’s Auctions Hollywood Legends Auction will offer the savvy collector and museum an array of one-of-a-kind pieces of memorabilia to own and cherish that even includes superheroes – The Superhero memorabilia includes a Christopher Reeve Superman costume from Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (Est. $20,000/$30,000), and a complete Batman costume on a custom display from Batman Returns (Estimate: $60,000/$80,000).
