Great Stories Come in Small Packages

Jack explores his tiny world

Great film making can be recognized when a film doesn’t have dialogue but captivates you. Element X Creative, a company that designs and creates stories through animation, visual effects, motion design, and creative editorial produced a short film for the Association of Independent Commercial Producers (AICP) that did just that.

What they came up with was a concept idea involving trains and miniatures that integrated sponsors associated with AICP. The title character named Jack purchases a box of Cracker Jack and pulls out a hidden toy surprise: a Magic Time Watch. Much to his delight the watch really works, and that’s when the adventure begins. The use of miniatures and retro designs gives the short film an appealing childlike quality that’s reminiscent of time travel films of the 1980s like Back to the Future and Peggy Sue Got Married. At 3:13 you’ll see a reference to Back to the Future.

Take a look at the short film below in its entirety. The inclusion of sponsor logos fits in the tiny universe well and doesn’t distract from the storytelling. The innovation, style and art direction is really breathtaking.
