LOCATION, LOCATION, Location? #1 – Revealed ~ The Andy Griffith Show

Did ‘ya Guess It?

This week we started a new segment called Location, Location, Location?  Our first entry  may have been too much of a stumper for people to guess correctly.

The answer to this week’s Location, Location, Location? location is the pathway seen in the opening credits of “The Andy Griffith Show”.

Let’s take a look at the NOW and THEN picture and a bit of information about the location …

This idyllic spot may be very familiar to many viewers of rerun television as this location was used as the pathway that Andy Griffith and little Ronnie Howard walked down at the beginning credits of every “The Andy Griffith Show” episode from 1960-1968.  It was first shot in black and white and a few years later, re-shot in color with an older Ronnie Howard.

The location is supposedly set near Mayberry in Stokes County, North Carolina at a place named in the show as Myers Lake (named after the show’s production manager, Frank E. Myers).  It was often referred to as “the fishin’ hole”.  Miles removed from North Carolina, this location is actually found in Franklin Canyon Park, nestled within the city of Beverly Hills, California.  It has been used in many productions throughout the years.  The Franklin Lake water level is much lower nowadays and the area where Opie throws in his rock is filled with dense marsh foliage, however, the path remains relatively unchanged after 52 years.

Coincidentally, our first planned entry for Location, Location, Location?  (pre-selected days in advance) was posted on the same day that news of George Lindsey’s (Goober) death was announced.

Rest in Peace – George Lindsey   (December 17, 1928 – May 6, 2012)

———————————————————————————————-

There are three things that matter in filmmaking and television:

Location, Location, Location.

As part of a fun series here on Beyond the Marquee, I will be choosing random filming locations from some famous (and not so famous) film and television productions throughout the years. They will be posted here for our viewers to take a guess as to what movie or TV show the location was used.

The location as it looks NOW will be posted on Monday and on Wednesday, I will post the answer and THEN picture identifying the location as it was seen on the large or small screen. Some entries may be very easy to guess, others may be difficult and sometimes I may give a clue that will help point you in the right direction.

Feel free to state your guess in the comments section below!  Occasionally, we might even offer a prize to the first person who guesses correctly!
