MIRROR, MIRROR on BluRay and DVD June 26th

Now out on BluRay and DVD from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment is MIRROR, MIRROR. This magical movie goes where no Snow White film has before, full of some Great Extras and Special Features you can now enjoy the classic fairy-tale in it’s fresh and comedic retelling the whole family will enjoy. The moment I left the theater with my daughters back in April after seeing this during a much needed vacation, I knew this would be a BluRay that would be a prominent fixture in our Home Video collection, so I’m excited to share with you the features of it now that it’s available for purchase.

Directed by visionary filmmaker Tarsem Singh (Immortals), MIRROR MIRROR is a visually-spectacular, fresh and funny retelling of the classic Snow White legend.  This family comedy features a star-studded cast including Academy Award®-winner Julia Roberts as the evil Queen, breakout star Lily Collins (The Blind Side) as Snow White, Armie Hammer (The Social Network) as the Prince, and Golden Globe® nominee Nathan Lane as the hapless bungling servant to the Queen.  The film also stars Sean Bean (Game of Thrones) as the King and Mare Winningham (Brothers) as Baker Margaret and showcases the stunning costumes from Academy Award®-winning designer Eiko Ishioka (Dracula).

MIRROR MIRROR tells the story of Snow White (Collins), a princess in exile and the evil Queen (Roberts) who ruthlessly rules her captured kingdom.  Seven courageous rebel dwarfs join forces with Snow White as she fights to reclaim her birthright and win her Prince in this magical comedy filled with jealousy, romance, and betrayal that will capture the hearts and imaginations of audiences the world over.  The film is produced by Bernie Goldmann (300), Relativity’s Ryan Kavanaugh (The Fighter) and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour franchise).   MIRROR MIRROR’S screen story was written by Melisa Wallack, and the screenplay was written by Marc Klein and Jason Keller.

MIRROR, MIRROR on BluRay and DVD June 26th

Our advance BluRay copy of the film arrived the other day. I opened the package not quite sure which title might be coming in that week for us to review, but as soon as I pulled it out and my 4 yr old caught sight of the Lenticular cover of the film, she let out a squael of delight! “Daddy, can we watch that movie tonight!?!? PLEASE!!!?!?!” I promised her if she ate a good dinner, her and her sister could watch some of it before bed. The rest of dinner was filled with the somewhat off key and butchered lyrical medley of “I Believe in Love” being sung in-between scarfing down Mac N Cheese and Broccolli. As anticipated this was going to be a welcomed addition to our collection, and a long night.

The Blu-ray include extras including a behind-the-scenes featurette, a dance-along to the song “I Believe in Love” , an interactive digital storybook, deleted scenes and much more. Here’s my run-down of each…

MIRROR MIRROR DVD Special Features:

·      Looking Through the Mirror – This was great, the kids really enjoyed watching the making of the film and as they slowly begin to understand that not everything they see is real, as much as I try and preserve the magic, this BTS featurette did not spoil much of the magic. It had some nice moments discussing the elegant and colorful costumes used in the film, which of course the girls ooh’d and aah’d at.

·      Prince and Puppies – Being that my family loves talking dow movies like Beverly Hills Chihuahua and the {INSERT NOUN HERE} BUDDIES movies, they got a great kick out of this particular feature where the dogs used in the film host the segment and explain working with actor Armie Hammer.

MIRROR MIRROR Blu-ray Special Features (All of the DVD Special Features, plus…)

·      “I Believe in Love” Dance-along – Exiting the theater my daughter was singning this catchy song or at least “I Believe, I Believe, eeeeve!” We downloaded this song and played it off YouTube for her minutes later on our iPhones, and she continued to learn and sing it the entire rest of our vacation back in April…so to think I’d escape my 2 and 4 yr old who love dancing amd singing as much as they love cupcakes and Princesses from replaying this feature to death…well it wasn’t going to happen. My youngest kept saying “More, More, Daddy!” This feature shows you the choreography used in the big musical number during the film’s end set to the Nina Hart song “I Believe in Love” performed by Lily Collins. Though in the film I recall it being more a part of the ending scene…it seems for the video they made it something that runs in conjunction with the rolling of the end credits. But regardless, girls will love this and the moves will be easy to learn and engrain in their heads, trust me on this!

·      Mirror Mirror Interactive Storybook – You may wonder why kids would want to watch a video storybook of a film they just spent 106 minutes watching, but if the property is alluring enough, you can reel them in with anything I guess. This feature was fun though,  essentially it’s the entire film in a the form of a read-a-long story book that you use with your remote to navigate.

·      Deleted Scenes – These were ok, always a treat to see what creatively or due to time was left out. Sadly, nothing too jaw-dropping from what the final cut produced, but deleted scenes are always welcome as extra content of a favorite film to keep the kids busy.
o   “Alternate Opening”
o   “So You Are From Valencia?”
o   “I Need Meat”
o   “Snow White is Dead”
o   “Thank You For Coming”

·      Digital Copy of the film – Always a welcome plus for adding to the iPad for the plane rides back East to see the family.
