The Rocketeer Visits NICK JR.

The Rocketeer on NICK JR

The Rocketeer on NICK JR

Daily Beyond the Marquee reader Daniel S. from Sarasota, FL sent us an email over the weekend. He included some pictures from an animated television interstitial called “Word of the Day” that ran during the commercials of a show he was watching with his daughter. We’re told that this particular couple minute segment ran on the Nickelodeon Network sister channel Nick. Jr.

What caught Daniel’s eye was clearly someone dressed up as “The Rocketeer”. Daniel writes; “The animators over at Nick must be fans of the old movie Rocketeer because they included a kid dressed up like him in a commercial Trick or Treating. I wish I had a Rocketeer costume and jet-pack when I was a kid.”

So did we Daniel, so did we. Well we aren’t sure the reasoning behind the cult characters cameo in this commercial, but we can only assume as well that the Nick Jr. staff are fans of the 1991 Disney film as much as we are. We’ll have to keep our eyes peeled now to see if they work in any other classic pop-culture movie icons into their spots before Halloween. If you hear of any, let us know. And if you ever see anything fun or news-worthy you think we could share with fellow BTM readers, drop us an email at mail@beyondthemarquee.com, we’d love to hear from you. Downtown Cinema (with Malone) Reviews WHITE HOUSE DOWN (Blu-Ray Review)

WHITE HOUSE DOWN available 10/29 on Blu-Ray and DVD from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment

Ever since its release in 1988, “Die Hard” has been the action movie that spawned a million imitators.  It’s almost become a joke to those who pitch films… “It’s like Die Hard on an aircraft carrier!” (“Under Siege”).  There’s Die Hard in a mall (“Point Blank”), Die Hard in a prep school (“Toy Soldiers”) and even Die Hard on a mountain (“Cliffhanger”)!  Bonus points to “Executive Decision” which did Die Hard on a plane exactly 6 years after Renny Harlin did it in “Die Hard 2”.  Ok, well that was Die Hard in an airport, but still… close enough.  In any event, Roland Emmerich the man who brought us such shallow, yet enjoyable blockbusters as “The Day After Tomorrow” and “Independence Day” presents “White House Down” or Die Hard in The White House. Even if it’s not the deepest movie out there, it sure is a fun time.

Before Thermopylae – 300: RISE OF AN EMPIRE

In the second installment of a series of films that were discussed by the filmmakers at San Diego Comic Con, Warner Bros. hosted the director and cast of 300: Rise of an Empire that included director Noam Murro, Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green, and Sullivan Stapleton

Based on Frank Miller’s latest graphic novel Xerxes, 300: Rise of an Empire will feature a sea battle between the Persians and the Greeks that preceded the events of the original 300. In the film, Greek general Themistocles (Sullivan Stapleton) attempts to unite all of Greece by leading the charge that will change the course of the war. 300: Rise of an Empire pits Themistocles against the massive invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), and Artemesia (Eva Green), vengeful commander of the Persian navy. The film was originally titled 300: Battle of Artemisium but was changed to 300: Rise of an Empire during pre-production.
