I have to admit that the Child’s Play movies for me are guilty pleasures. Since the first film came out in the late 80’s I was hooked. Working for a Blockbuster Video for over a decade I acquired a cool collection of Child’s Play posters, standee displays and promotional swag. In college I made a series of personal Child’s Play videos using a My Buddy doll I’d bought and not only painted it’s hair red, but cut out scary mouths from my Fangoria magazines and stuck on him for various reactions. The victims of those videos were my fellow classmates of my TV production school in South Florida. So after many years and many good and bad sequels (depending on who you ask), I was quite excited knowing a NEW film in the Child’s Play film series was in production, and now it’s out, and I’ve gotten an advance copy to review for you today. Whenever books or plays are adapted to film, something gets modified along the way. To exist in another medium, things have to change. It’s the nature of the beast. Otherwise a 1,000 page Stephen King novel would turn into a 10-hour movie. Same rule applies to comic books, the new Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. being just the latest example.

Even the most faithful adaptation will most likely concede to one comic book staple that doesn’t translate well to live-action — superhero masks. Ditch them and you risk alienating the core fanbase (“How come Thor never wears his helmet?!”). Keep them and non-comics fans may complain (“I paid 12 bucks to see Andrew Garfield’s face, not a mask covering it!”).

What’s a costume designer to do in such a pinch? Many things have been attempted over the years. Some good. Some bad. Some downright ugly.

Gravity, Excitement in the Void of Space (Film Review)

Breathtaking, mesmerizing and thrilling the movie Gravity explodes on the screen generating a feast of cinematic brilliance. In 3D IMAX the film will have you floating in space then spinning out of control while you are gasping for air as you try clinging to anything solid, followed by the taste fear of being alone. Fine direction, believable acting and an amazing view of earth and the void of space makes Gravity a must see.

Runner Runner, A Chancy Roll of the Dice (Film Review)

There are a lot of things you may not know about online gambling, but if you’re interested Runner Runner tells all. The movie features two of Hollywood’s prominent stars Justin Timberlake and Ben Affleck who face off against each other in a world that pays off big if you are on the right side of the craps table. The film with a twist you’ll probably see coming does its best to throw you a winner, but the dice are loaded and they’re not in your favor.
