E.T. Foam Home…

I admit it, I am a HUGE fan of the movie E.T. the Extra Terrestrial, it ranks within my personal top 10 greatest movies of all time. I was 9 when the film came out…and by then I was so in love with sci-fi and aliens and fascinated by other worlds that this movie became an instant favorite the opening weekend when my mom took me to see it. I connected to the warmth, adventure and mystery of this movie in an emotional way, and E.T. won his way into my heart forever. As most kids during the time of the films release, I was caught up in the marketing blitz of toys, magazines, books, action figures, puzzles, collector cards, light up rubber fingers and more. I cherished my collection and vowed as the years passed that one day I’d pass it down to my own kids so they could enjoy it all as much as I had. 30 years later I have found myself doing just that. It gives me great joy to share with my children the movie and the items that kept the magic of that film alive for me for many years after it’s release, and watching them fall in love with E.T. for themselves. If you share a love for the film as large as I do, you’ll be excited to know that now E.T. can be a part of your life forever because over at Entertainment Earth, you can buy your own life size E.T. the Extra Terrestrial Stunt Puppet Prop Replica. I just got mine and I’ve got a review to go with it, read ahead…

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. episode 2: O-8-4 (T.V. review)

SHIELD Level 7

Last night’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode, entitled 0-8-4 (not to be confused with OU812), continues the small screen exploits of everyone’s favorite fictional global protection agency.  As led by Agent Coulson, the team investigates an 0-8-4, which is a S.H.I.E.L.D. prefix for “object of unknown origin”.  Considering that the last reported 0-8-4 (not to be confused with R.O.U.S.s) was a magical hammer that fell from the sky, the newly assembled team is in for one hell of a baptism of fire.

New Girl: The Complete 2nd Season (DVD Review)

New Girl: The Complete Second Season (2013)

New Girl: The Complete Second Season (2013)

“Who’s that girl? Who’s that girl? It’s Jess!!!” Any fan of FOX’s hit comedy television seriesNew Girl” will be happy to know that the Complete Second is now out on DVD. If you’ve been a loyal fan of the show since the beginning, then you know this is a show that’s grown in leaps and bounds, yet still stayed true to the characters we fell in love with from the start. Zoey Deschanel (Jess) continues to steal the show as the quirky girl who finds herself living with 3 other guys in a large apartment loft. Nick (Jake Johnson), Schmidt (Max Greenfield) and Winston (Lamorne Morris) are a trifecta of comic geniuses and the show feels like the solid old fashioned sit-coms of the 80’s again. Read ahead for our review and check out a bunch of cool bonus goodies below too.

Jay Leno Takes BATMAN’s Tumbler for a Spin!

In this latest edition of “Jay Lenos Garage”, Warner Bros. Transportation Coordinator Hobart Lundt takes comedian and NBC Tonight Show host Jay Leno out for a super-fun ride in the custom-built Tumbler “Batmobile” from Chris Nolan’s Batman trilogy. Some of our BTM staff have had the thrill of seeing and hearing this car start up on the Warner Bros. backlot among the other Batmobiles in storage and the word that always rings true is “impressive”. Jay Leno is no stranger to cars built like a tank (no, this is true, he owns a tank car!) and even he can’t help get caught up in the excitement of sitting in Batman’s car and experiencing the roar of the engine. If you’ve ever wondered about the origin, construction challenges, costs and what lies under the hood of this uber-iconic star-car, then check out the video above.

Jay does many great car reviews which can be seen on his website here:  http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/

“DEAR JJ ABRAMS…” Check out this Awesome Fan Made Love Letter from STAR WARS Fans to JJ

BTM reader Joe C from Central Florida sent us this link to what can only be described as a warning cloaked in a love letter. With the new Star Wars film in pre-production there are lots of questions, speculations, hopes, fears and anxiety flowing through the fans of the greatest epic space drama of all time. “Dear JJ Abrams, 4 Rules to Make Star Wars Great Again” is a video intended to be a shot over the bow aimed at Disney and the team behind the upcoming Star Wars films. A chance for Director JJ Abrams to redeem Star Wars and leave the three prequels far, far away from the minds of the world. This video harnesses the key elements of what made the original trilogy so popular and gives a soft, but firmly implied direction of what fans not only are hoping for, but in their hearts are expecting JJ to deliver in 2015. Voice your support at www.dearjjabrams.com and #dearjjabrams and check out some cool behind the scenes making of images of the video on the Producers website; www.sincerelytruman.com. If you come across something you want to share with us or  your fellow Beyond the Marquee readers, drop us an email at mail@beyondthemarquee.com

Finding GRAVITY (A Film Commentary)

Official Movie Poster

As the end credits rolled, my first thoughts of Alfonso Cuarón’s new film, Gravity, were, “!!!!”

I have not watched a movie in the theater this intense since Ridley Scott’s Black Hawk Down. This may have something to do with my worst fears – drowning or being exposed to the vacuum of space – but I had to prepare myself for this particular screening based solely on the premise of the film: a medical engineer and an astronaut work together to survive after an accident leaves them adrift in space. Vacuum of space!
