Lindalee Reacts to Matt Smith’s Announcement to Leave Doctor Who

On Saturday, the BBC announced that actor Matt Smith will be leaving the hit BBC One show Doctor Who after four amazing years. Matt first stepped into the TARDIS in 2010 and will leave the role at the end of this year after starring in the unmissable 50th Anniversary in November and regenerating in the Christmas special. During his time as the Doctor, Matt has reached over 30 million unique UK viewers and his incarnation has seen the show go truly global. He was also the first actor to be nominated for a BAFTA in the role. Here at Beyond the Marquee, our resident Doctor Who reviewer Lindalee has been coping with the news since it broke and finally is ready to come forward to give her thoughts and weigh in on the announcement. Now You See Me, a Magical Twist (Film Review)

There have been some good film’s featuring magicians, but it’s been quite awhile since a bright one has come along to challenge the forerunners.  Opening this weekend is Now You See Me and it’s a fast moving, quick thinking, mind bender that’s fueled by a mysterious story and played out by a great cast.  If you like intrigue, mystery, magic and action and not wary of the fact that we are in a world captivated by CGI (although the producers say all the magic in Now You See Me is done live before the camera), then rush to a theater near you for some different kind of action.

After Earth, a Sci-Fi Thriller for Teens (Film Review)

Taking a chance on another science fiction thriller M. Night Shyamalan probes disaster with After Earth.  The trick here is can he rise above his box-office misses like The Last Airbender and Lady in the Water. His The Sixth Sense has never been equaled and for that he still has a following.  Here, Shyamalan gets smart and brings in a top star and his son to do his bidding and comes up a winner. While it’s not the best space adventure in the past two years, it certainly gets high marks for its teen target audience.
