OTHER SON- POSTER

The Other Son, Enemies Switched at Birth (Film Review)

Probably the most terrifying thing that can happen to a woman is that her child was inadvertently switched at birth.  But, what if those two children were brought up as enemies before the unbelievable was discovered.  This happens to be the premise of the foreign film The Other Son that’s now playing in selected theaters around the country.

The film tells the story of 18-year-old Joseph (Jules Sitruk) a young Jewish boy living in the home of his parents.  Attaining of age to serve his mandatory military commitment, his Israeli Army Commander father Alon (Pascal Elbé) and physician mother Orith Silber (Emmanuelle Devos) anxiously awaits for their son’s acceptance.  In a shocking quirk of fate, Joseph turns up with an A positive blood type to his parents A negative.  After DNA testing they realize they have the wrong child.  After going through records of his birth a discovery is made that Joseph was a victim of an accidental switch at birth during the Gulf War. With the common occupied territory at the time the switch happened during the evacuation of the clinic where the two were simultaneously born.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter (Video Review)

Obama and Romney ain’t got nothin’ on ol’ Abe.

Honest Abe.  The Great Emancipator.  Abolisher of slavery.  And, in his spare time, slayer of the undead.

New this week on DVD and Blu-ray (just in time for Decision 2012) is last summer’s Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.  Produced by Tim Burton, who’s having a prolific year (see Frankenweenie, skip Dark Shadows), and directed by Timur (Wanted) Bekmambetov, who never met a law of physics he didn’t break, this adaptation of Seth Grahame-Smith’s novel is one for the ages.  Just not this age.

Does TRON Make A Cameo in Disney’s New Animated WRECK-IT-RALPH?

Next week Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph hits theaters and people seem genuinely excited about this movie with it’s colorful mix of video-game characters and vibrant game-worlds. Well according to a recent interview w/ Bruce Boxleitner (TRON himself) about the appearance of the Grid’s most famous digital warrior, he had this to say….

Will “Mockingbird Lane” Be As “Creepy” As The Original “Munsters”?

MOCKINGBIRD LANE — Pilot — Pictured: (l-r) Charity Wakefield as Marilyn, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa, Mason Cook as Eddie Munster, Portia De Rossi as Lily Munster, Jerry O’Connell as Herman Munster.

“Mockingbird Lane,” Bryan Fuller’s long-planned reboot of classic 60’s series “The Munsters,” is finally becoming true reality and has more than a twist on its original. NBC will air the pilot as a special Halloween show on Friday, October 26 in hopes to catch audiences for a real series run if it can pull in the numbers of viewers it needs.

Writer Bryan Fuller (“Pushing Daisy’s”, “Hannibal”) wrote the script for the pilot show with Bryan Singer (“Superman Returns”, “X-men”) as director and executive producer of the project. The critics and concern are what the series might be with Singer at the helm. An hour long format and billed as a drama with comedy ‘sprinkled in’ – but will it work?

SECRET OF WINGS boxart

Disney’s Secret of the Wings, on Blu-ray 3D (Video Review)

Children will enjoy this wonderland romp in a frozen forest with their favorite fairy Tinker Bell.  Disney’s Secret of the Wings, the newest in the Fairies collection, has been released in a Blu-ray combo pack and for the first time includes a Fairies feature on a disc in 3D.

This adventure starts in Pixie Hallow showing Tink working with her friends that are making baskets for neighboring winter fairies living in the forbidden winter woods.  Curious about the winter woods, Tink volunteers to help the Animal Fairy take the rabbits to the edge of the frozen forest.  There she sees the rabbits cross a mysterious gateway that changes their fir from brown to white so they can survive the cold.
