This may be the film that knocks off The Avengers from the all time box-office winner for 2012. The movie is called The Dark Knight Rises, but loyal fans will refer to the film as Batman and they know that this dark knight has all the power to rise above any comic book hero the industry can throw at him. For me, I’m just one of the crew, a follower hooked since Batman Begins.

John Delia Highly stylized and compelling the movie 4:44 Last Day on Earth has been released on Blu-ray. The very dark film deals with nature’s wrath while sending a message to the failing atmosphere naysayer. Much like the recent moody Melancholia, the movie takes you on a collision course with death to all mankind. It’s not an action film like 2012 or The Day After Tomorrow that make similar statements, but more of a strange kind of Science Fiction thriller.

I hate the word “epic.” It’s been robbed of its meaning by teens that loiter around hot topic saying stupid stuff like, “Bro, that burrito at lunch was effin’ EPIC!!!” or “Last night was EPIC… I straight puked all over the sidewalk!!!!” Well, here are two real definitions of the word according to dictionary.com: 1) heroic; majestic; impressively great. 2) of unusually great size or extent. Well now that Comic-Con is finished and the press embargo has been lifted, I can tell you that Christopher Nolan’s new film The Dark Knight Rises is truly epic. To call it anything else, would actually be a slight on the adjective.

As we reported last week, this past Friday, July 13, 2012, select fans at San Diego Comic Con were treated to an exclusive premiere screening of ITEM 47, a Marvel One-Shot short film which will be included with the bonus material on the upcoming September 25th Blu-ray & DVD release of THE AVENGERS! Comic Con attendees were encouraged to download the all-new App – “The Avengers Initiative: A Marvel Second Screen App” – from the iTunes store for unprecedented access to exclusive content building up to the September 25th home entertainment release, and also in order to partake in the alternate reality game (ARG) at the Con! Fan solved puzzles within the App to receive special codes, that when unlocked, guided them to their next clue using a built in map of the Gas Lamp District in Downtown San Diego. A total of 4 location spots were included. Upon completing the entire ARG experience, fans were given access to the special screening followed by a Q&A with ITEM 47 director and Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito, and stars Lizzy Caplan, Jesse Bradford and Maximiliano Hernandez! He has produced almost 300 features variously delving into the realms of horror, sci-fi and fantasy with “The Puppetmaster Series” being one of his most celebrated and popular franchise.
