Hey Doc, welcome back. I was just thinking: You know the thing I love about low-budget films? The creativity that often compensates for a lack of funds. They’re also fun to watch if you love the production process, as you can catch little flaws that are harder to spot in big “hollywood” pictures. These movies also provide great examples of clever marketing. Look no further than Troma’s Lloyd Kaufman (the modern day P.T. Barnum) if you want to learn promoting at a doctorate level. So you can just imagine how happy I was when I received Some Guy Who Kills People from Anchor Bay… and it came with a promotional ice cream scooper! Right from the start, I knew I was in for a treat – be it the movie itself or the bowl of Rocky Road I scooped before pressing play. The film, about a random fellow who murders others, hits DVD on July 3rd, but is it worth an hour and a half of the freedom you’ll be celebrating at the next day’s barbeque?

Most all of us have had a Teddy Bear when we were young, even if it was in the form of Yoda or Raggedy Ann, but nothing like the one in the movie Ted. This fun filled film gives a great show under the direction of Seth MacFarlane who knows comedy and shows off his skills in a big way with Ted.

Bare bods and fast music can’t save Magic Mike. Even if the ladies think they are being entertained, it’s all a façade to cash in on a voyeuristic business that has risen from the sexually charged 90’s. It may be a take on Tatum’s early teen romp to fill his pockets, but the actor did better with his “Step-up” acting than he does here.

The Princess Bride 25th Anniversary Blu-ray debuts October 2 from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment. A classic fairy tale complete with heroes, villains, trickery, mockery and death-defying miracles, The Princess Bride captured audiences young and old with its brilliant, memorable dialogue, enchanting story line and bewitching characters. Starting today, fans will have a chance to vote on the Blu-ray artwork on the 25th Anniversary tab of The Princess Bride over at the official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/theprincessbride). I swear I have had this conversation over and over with friends of mine in the industry for the past few years (or more), that studios are just being too reckless with releasing TOO MUCH material for their films TOO EARLY. Growing up, the movies of the 70’s-90’s never had this much pre-promotion and buzz. We had no Internet, no Viral Videos, no Chat Rooms, no bombardment of Spoilers in the way of clips, teasers, featurettes, multiple trailers, etc to over sell a good movie. Back in “the day” we had a movie trailer, just one, maybe two if lucky, a poster in the theater, perhaps a photo in a popular magazine, a featured article in a STARLOG, and the occasional behind the scenes making of tease on HBO. Unfortunately now the exposure to a films content, spoilers. secrets, endings and surprises are unavoidable. Point in case…this week a video was posted up that was composed by one fan, who painstakingly combed thru endless domestic and international teasers, clips, TV spots, sneak peeks, featurettes, behind the scenes highlights and more…to make a 25 minute…”EXTENDED TRAILER” For this Summer’s The Amazing Spiderman.
