Box Office Monday: Avengers Fight for the Top

The Avengers Assembled $200,700,000 at the Box Office

THE AVENGERS ASSEMBLES A RECORD $200+ MILLION BOX OFFICE OPENING WEEKEND!

Congratulations to MARVEL’S The Avengers on this weekend’s amazing box office success! From a marketing campaign that started back in 2008 at the end of Iron Man and built itself up in the years to follow with THOR, HULK and Captain America many had expected this team-up to be huge, but not this huge! Raking in 200.3 million this weekend, it beats out last Summer’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt2 which held the previous title for the biggest weekend record of all time. That one pulled in $169.2 mil (though Deathly Hallows still holds the title for breaking opening day records). The Avengers has broken a whole new list of box-office records though and will undoubtedly continue to do so! The Disney/Marvel marketing team-up seems to have been as impressive and powerful as that of the Avengers characters themselves. A very exciting time in cinema history and they’re just getting started!

Downtown Cinema (with Malone) Reviews THOU SHALT NOT KILL… EXCEPT (Blu-Ray Review)

Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except

"Thou Shalt Not Kill... Except" available now

You know Doc, one of the greatest Westerns of all time is, without question, The Good The Bad and The Ugly.  Shot on a shoestring in the Spanish desert, Sergio Leone showed us a style of filmmaking not previously seen in the genre.  This was no John Wayne-in-Monument Valley picture.  The landscape,  new and exciting, might as well have been the surface of the moon.  Then television star Clint Eastwood delivered a gritty performance that would shoot him straight to legendary status as the iconic “Man With No Name”.  And then there’s that soundtrack.  Everyone knows Ennio Morricone’s famous score, which instantly conjures up imagery of a duel on a dusty road.  Perfection.  But as good as it is, I’m not here to review that film.  Look at the thumbnail… I just finished watching the brand new Blu-Ray release of another low budget film shot in a strange land.  Read on for the good, the bad and the ugly on Josh Becker’s Thou Shalt Not Kill… Except  (available now from Synapse Films).

MARQUEE MAMA REVIEWS MARVEL’S “THE AVENGERS”

I’ll admit up front that I am not the target demographic for this kind of movie.  I’ve never been a comic book person, much less a Marvel insider.  And while I don’t think you need to be a Marvel diehard to enjoy this movie, it’ll help.
