(Film Review) MARQUEE MAMA Sings the Praises of Disney’s INTO THE WOODS

I wish…

More than anything… we were allowed to publish this review of Disney’s Into the Woods weeks ago! That way, you could have been learning the lyrics to the fantastic songs and been ready well ahead of time to sing out loud along with these amazing characters in what is certain to be the family film hit of the Christmas season.

This is one not to be missed. That said, to enjoy Into the Woods, you must like musicals. A love of musicals would be even better. You’re hit with it immediately, in fact, the very first non-narrated line of the movie is sung. This is not a movie for my son, who can’t understand why actors in movies suddenly break into song, but my daughter is counting the days to Christmas and it has little to do with Santa Claus.

Truly memorable fairy tales can be counted on one hand (maybe two). But if you’re like me, never exposed to fairy tales as a child, Into the Woods is a good crash course in the best of them. Cinderella, Rapunzel, Jack & the Beanstock and Little Red Riding Hood converge in this original tale (adapted from the Tony Award-winning stage version), woven together then twisted and turned.

Click ahead for my full review of Disney’s Into the Woods, coming to theaters on Christmas Day!

Wild, a Remarkable Walk Into Reality (Film Review)

Remarkable, compelling and daunting the film Wild takes audiences on a trip that shows the power of the human body and the decision of one woman to face her fears. Based on the true experience taken from a book by Cheryl Strayed, the reality of it all creates a sense of acceptance much like rooting for a dark horse athlete in a race. But instead of a contestant, it’s a woman walking a thousand miles alone searching for her best self while fighting the daemons within that makes the story a winner.

Battle of the Five Armies, the Awesome Finale of The Hobbit Trilogy (Film Review)

All good things must come to an end and for The Hobbit the finale is amazing. Titled The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies, the film delivers action packed sequences of total devastation putting the film up there with The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. The cast continues to amaze with their fine acting, Peter Jackson lays the story to rest with a solemn, but captivating finish and the production crew dishes out a heaping helping of awesome cinematography/CGI and special effects.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Episode 2.10: What We Become (mid-season finale review)

SHIELD-season-2-banner

Over the last few years, television has seen the advent of the “mid-season finale,” or, as network marketing pronounces it, “MID-SEASON FINALE!!”

In the past this was more commonly known as the “episode before winter hiatus” or, more succinctly, “just another episode.” Well, not anymore! Now it’s as big of a deal as the season finale, and advertised as such. The problem is that the showrunners aren’t always in sync with the marketing peeps, resulting in episodes that don’t live up to the hype because they weren’t designed to. They don’t feature big cliffhangers or game-changing events that make viewers complain (in a good way) about having to wait until springtime to see what happens to their favorite characters.

What They Become, the MID-SEASON FINALE to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., lives up to the hype and then some, as evident by my wife’s two-sentence critique, “We have to wait until March for the next one?! What the @#$%!”

Exodus: Gods and Kings a Visual Treat (Film Review)

Special effects and cinematography are key in this colossal release of Exodus: Gods and Kings. The two and a half hour visual treat takes you into the Biblical times of Moses and his fight to free the Jews from Egyptian slavery. You may have a similar film called The Ten Commandments in you DVD library, but for sure it’s not at the level as this production. Seeing the film on the big screen is the only way to go and I do recommend 3D.

Paul Shippers Fan Poster for STAR WARS: The Force Awakens Teaser

With just over a year until the world sees the next Star Wars installment on the big screen, our good friend and illustrator Paul Shipper has created this teaser poster to entice us even further.

As Paul tells us, the poster is pure speculation and is loosley based on the first teaser trailer – with an added twist of story-line speculation;

Luke is on the Forrest Moon of Endor…

It is Winter…

He has found the place where his Father was laid to rest, the location of the Funeral Pyre…

There is a disturbance in the Force….

What do you think of the poster? Drop us your thoughts in the comments below!
