BACK TO THE FUTURE Appears in Yet Another Commercial (and it’s pretty cool!)

As we approach 2015, there doesn’t seem to be any waning in the interest and callbacks to the Back to the Future franchise. Every six months or so, a reference shows up in commercials on TV, online, or in the movies – from hocking Nike shoes, using fake Hoverboards in joke videos, to a cameo in the latest (and deservedly-panned) film, A Million Ways to Die in the West.

Phones 4u, a UK-based company, recently added to the mix with their new ad that features a screen-accurate time-machine DeLorean and several references to the original Back to the Future film. Despite its brevity, this commercial is pretty cool and worth a look.

How many subtle Back to the Future references can you find?

It’s FREE STUFF FRIDAY and we’re going APE-CRAZY this week celebrating the release of “DAWN of the PLANET OF THE APES“. Once again our good friend Rich Handley and the team as HASSLEIN Books have been super generous in offering up some of their library of extensive movie-themed reference books to our loyal Beyond the Marquee followers. And what better titles from their amazing catalog for this week’s contest, than Timeline of the Planet of the Apes: The Definitive Chronology and Lexicon of the Planet of the Apes: The Comprehensive EncyclopediaTimeline examines every recorded event of the Apes saga, in its proper chronological context―from long before Caesar’s birth to far beyond Earth’s destruction. Lexicon is designed for casual and avid fans alike, and this volume will help you learn everything there is to know about the upside-down world of Planet of the Apes.

In Celebration of DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, We Revisit our Classic “APEMANIA” Beyond the Marquee WebSeries Episode!

With the new “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” episode hitting theaters this Friday, we thought we’d harken back and do our own Throwback Thursday to one of our very first Beyond the Marquee episodes from November 2011. BTM Founder and Creative Director; Steve Czarnecki, a huge fan of the Original Planet of the Apes film saga, paid a visit to Hollywood make-up artist Brian Penikas who when not applying make-up and prosthetics to A-listers on movie sets, he channels his own passion for the Planet of the Apes movies into his side company, APEMANIA. APEMANIA is a creative outlet for those wanting to be CosPlaying Chimps, have a passion for film accurate Prop and Costume Replicas and a place where restorations of original masks from the original films take place. With a VIP invite to tour Brian’s studio and an offer to be put into the makeup chair to undergo a man to ape transformation, this was one assignment Steve could not turn down.

Check out the video above and read ahead for a re-post of Steve Czarnecki’s original post about APEMANIA from November 23rd, 2011

“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes” a Fight for Justice (Film Review)

If you are looking for action and drama this summer, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes has both.  The science fiction adventure does a terrific job of depicting the apes with realism and their ongoing battle with the humans a thrill ride.  Fine acting, CGI/Cinematography and directing make this one sequel you will not want to miss on the big screen.  The 3D effects are good, but not necessary and you have a choice of either 2D or 3D when it opens today at theaters everywhere.

Beyond the Marquee: The Web-Series (Episode 65) – Rick’s Cafe; Casablanca, Morocco

On this BTM Road Trip segment, we go behind the scenes as Beyond the Marquee senior reporter Jon Donahue takes a day off from acting in the new Tom Tykwer film “A Hologram for the King” (starring Tom Hanks), to interview the owner of the coolest restaurant and piano bar in Casablanca, Morocco.

Rick’s Cafe, the mythical saloon from the 1942 film “Casablanca” has finally been transformed from celluloid to wood, glass and plaster thanks to the imagination and determination of an American woman enamoured of Morocco, Kathy Kriger. Armed with only a FLIP Camera and the help of a couple of local friends, Jon manages once again to create yet another International Road Trip segment for the BTM audience you definitely won’t want to miss!
