[FAN MAIL] – A BTM Reader Notes the Similarities in the Movie Posters for EARTH to ECHO and E.T.

Can you spot the Similarities?

Can you spot the Similarities?

Beyond the Marquee reader Danny K from Clearwater, Florida dropped us a line last night to discuss his observations on the similarities for the movie posters EARTH to ECHO and E.T.. We always welcome reader mail and thought we’d share his email with our fellow Marquee’ologists.

“Hi Beyond the Marquee, I was at the local Cobb theater here in Clearwater, FL this weekend seeing “Edge of Tomorrow” when the new movie poster for “Earth to Echo” caught my eye. I’m a big fan of the 1982 Steven Spielberg movie “E.T”. and this recent Echo poster immediately conjured up images of that classic movie. I went home afterwards and looked at the poster online and came up with some uncanny observations. (Not sure if it’s planned or a coincidence, but the movie E.T. was released 32 years ago last week.) If it was planned, then the artists did a clever job with capturing the similar marketing magic over three decades later in their recent poster design. Note the word “Adventure” in the tag line, having a kids finger reaching out to touch that of another alien species, the curved ridge of Earth running thru the word Echo, similar patterned stars hidden behind the forest in the background, and the words “Earth To” (letters E and T) added to the film that I think I read recently was originally just named “Echo”. Given that the 1982 movie E.T. was a huge success, it would probably make sense and be a brilliant move on the studios end to give the poster for “Earth to Echo” it’s own E.T. “touch”. Anyway. Wanted to share. Love your site.”  – Danny K******* (Clearwater, Florida)

The Laughter Continues “22 Jump Street” (Film Review)

Taking step two, the sequel 22 Jump Street sends the boys to college.  The hilarious comedy extends the life of the series by one and puts Jump Street on a road to a possible franchise.  Sit through to the end just as the credits roll for some very funny poster takes on possible new chapters in the lives of Schmidt and Jenko.  If 22 Jump Street’s box-office tops their first release, then it would only seem right to give us a shot at “23 Jump Street”.

Kirk, Spock and Bones: Teaching My Son The Essential (STAR TREK) Stuff That Matters

"Peace or...UTTER DESTRUCTION...it's up to you." -- Kirk, A Taste Of Armageddon, Ep 23/3192.1

“Mom, What’s a Prime Directive”?

My one-year-old son will be asking me many difficult questions all too soon. Ones like: “Where do babies come from?” “Is Santa Claus real?” and most certainly: “Why is my middle name Tiberius?” As a Star Trek fan, I look forward to answering only one of these questions. I think that Star Trek has a lot of lessons to offer children, whether they hail from outer space or Riverside, Iowa. Indeed, I feel a sense of urgency to teach my son about his namesake “James Tiberius Kirk” of Star Trek: The Original Series (1966-69) because I have recently gotten the distinct impression that the popularity of Star Trek TOS is on the wane with today’s youth.

How on earth can a mother prepare her son to one day become a mini Captain Kirk?” A few guidelines to follow, ahead…
