COFFEEHOUSE SCREENWRITING 101: An Intro to Caffeinated Writing Culture

P-booth-coffee-logo-3

I spend a lot of time in coffee shops, yet I don’t like coffee.  I didn’t used to like coffee anyway. Until I spent a lot of time in coffee shops.  Does that sound jittery?  Blame caffeine because I’m typing these words in a coffee shop.

As a freelance writer determined, like the vast majority of Los Angeles, to pen the great American screenplay, coffeehouses have become my unofficial office.  Peet’s Coffee, Panera, mom ‘n’ pop businesses like Buster’s in South Pasadena — I’ve clocked so much time in each that more than one manager has reminded me to punch out for break.

If you lack an office, if your home is too distracting, and if libraries are too deafeningly silent, then give coffee shops a try.  However, don’t do so until you’ve learned the tips and tricks of the trade.

GRAND POSTER 2A

“Grand Budapest Hotel” A Comical Escapade (Film Review)

Quirky and comical Wes Anderson’s newest release The Grand Budapest Hotel follows the same pattern as several of his past work, but this one outdoes them all.  The sets, special computer graphics, costumes and other production values take you to a whimsical world of mystery and murder as only Anderson can depict.  If you are a fan of Wes Anderson’s eight past films or at least The Royal Tenenbaums and The Darjeeling Limited then this mystery adventure will be a perfect fit.

‘The Inspector Chronicles: Untitled Motion Picture About A Space Traveler…’ Has Reached it’s Goal!

The Inspector returns in a full length motion picture

The Inspector returns in a full length motion picture

Last month we learned that ‘The Inspector Chronicles: Untitled Motion Picture About A Space Traveler …a feature film-length adventure of the upcoming Season 2  of the Inspector Spacetime web-series was in the works. This week the $25,000 goal on IndieGoGo was reached and the movie version of the originally planned Season 2 web-series episodes will be going into production soon. Season 1 of “Untitled Web Series About A Space Traveler Who Can Also Travel Through Time” was made entirely possible by the fans that wanted so much to see more of the adventures of Inspector Spacetime than the glimpses they got on “Community.” They, along with The Inspector himself, Travis Richey, and a small army of volunteers, willed the 6-part series into being, and by all accounts, it exceeded expectations. It seems that history has repeated itself once again.

The guest stars lined up for the feature film include the Seventh Doctor himself, Sylvester McCoy (“Doctor Who,” The Hobbit), will star as Uncle Roderick, Robert Picardo (Star Trek: Voyager, Stargate: Atlantiswill be playing Bernard, the mysterious family physician. Chase Masterson (Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Doctor Who Big Finishwill be playing Annabelle Wagner!  Emmy-nominated actress Mayim Bialik (Blossom, Big Bang Theory) is providing the voice of The Inspector’s sentient time machine, the B.O.O.T.H. Though the campaign has reached it’s goal, you still can contribute to the production and some really cool and recently added perks can be yours in exchange. Lindalee Rose at the ART OF THE TARDIS Craft Faire

On Saturday, March 15, 2014, Burbank’s famous Steampunk clothing store; Clockwork Couture threw it’s first ever, The Art of the TARDIS, Doctor Who-themed event. An homage to the famous time-lord’s famous blue box was on hand as over 25 unique vendors from in and out of state set up outside to store to showcase and sell their themed wares. Also on hand at the craft faire were opportunities to take your picture in the TARDIS, a costume contest, a chance to get an up close look at authentic screen-used and replica props and costumes from the show and to jam out to a cover band playing your favorite television and movie themes.

Beyond the Marquee’s resident Whovian Lindalee journeyed out to the event and got a chance to talk with some of the artists on hand for this awesome event. Before she left she even managed to take home some cool pieces of original Doctor Who themed art (some featured within this report) which she’ll be offering up soon on an upcoming Fan Art episode, so stay tuned for that! If you missed this year’s “The Art of the TARDIS” celebration, by the turnout on-hand, it seems inevitable that this will regenerate itself and return soon (we hear rumors of September). Be sure to check the Clockwork Couture Event page for updates thru-out the year.
