Are you a Film Fan?

There are people who watch films for fun, and there are people who watch films to engage their brain and nitpick about it to their friends. Basically, there are people who think Batman’s weapon arsenal was cool, and those who assess how the “Dark Knight Rises” villain, Bane, can eat food with a giant outward-facing vacuum cleaner over his face. You may be a die-hard film fan if you’re DVD selection takes up a whole room, if you are planning on using Black Friday sales this year to completely re-do your home into a theater, or if you can recite IMDB by heart. Alas, this passion comes with it’s headaches. Being a great film fan takes practice and a lot of time. It requires people to sit through the latest Transformers movie at close to three hours so they can make cohesive arguments on why it is horrible on message boards. There are dilemmas in being considered a real film fan, and these are things that film enthusiast’s battle every single day. Read more about it ahead…

Our favorite little Whovian chats it up with kids, adults, time-lords and even some aliens all converging together to show their appreciation for the hit BBC show, now in it’s fifth decade. Hollywood heavyweights Sylvester Stallone and Robert De Niro team up in what is expected to be a fabulous holiday season flick about a rivalry that is 30 years in the making, in Grudge Match! Sylvester Stallone is back in the ring – even after he hung up his gloves in Rocky Balboa. This latest rendition of his pugilist-inspired acting endeavors pits them against none other than Robert De Niro. For those of you who thought that Stallone’s boxing days were behind him, think again! This exciting comedy is set to explode into cinemas on Christmas Day 2013. Billed as the battle of the heavyweights – 30 years later – Grudge Match certainly pits two of Hollywood’s most iconic actors against one another, like never before. By the baton of Thor!

There’s no better day to review the soundtrack for Thor: The Dark World than Thor’s Day, A.K.A. Thursday, A.K.A. today. The Asgardian’s first foray into film was the 2011 adaptation of the Marvel comics version of the Norse myth, a robust noble epic that made the inevitable sequel something to look forward to. Its score was equally epic.

Unfortunately the mighty Avenger’s sequel proves to be less than mighty, but there’s still a chance that the music could be fantastic, right? In the immortal words of the Thunder God himself (as scripted by Stan Lee), “I say thee NAY, base villain!”

With Netflix drawing in more than four times the earnings in the third quarter of 2013, as it did during the same time period in 2012, it’s clear: Internet streaming has captured the elusive status of the ultimate shaker and mover in the world of entertainment. But what does this mean for the film industry? Critics of Internet streaming allege that, now that a trip to the movie theater is no longer necessary, producers will no longer be able to elicit the profits necessary to justify huge film investments. As those in favor of streaming explain, this concern has bothered naysayers since the dawn of the VCR — and so far, to no avail.
