HITCHCOCK (Blu-ray Review)

Now available on Blu-ray & DVD from Fox/Searchlight Home Video!

Out on Home video today, if you’re a fan of Alfred Hitchcock, this is one to check out! What’s it about? Oscar® winners Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren* are spellbinding in this provocative story about the making of one of cinema’s most iconic films. Plagued by both a reckless ego and nagging self-doubt, Hollywood legend Alfred Hitchcock (Hopkins) becomes obsessed with a grisly murder story that the studios won’t back. Determined, he risks his reputation, his home and even the love of his wife Alma (Mirren), as he sets out to make the film. Ultimately, Hitch wins Alma over, and the two collaborate to create an enduring masterpiece – Psycho. Also starring Scarlett Johansson, Toni Collette and Jessica Biel, Hitchcock is “a knockout from start to finish” (Rex Reed, New York Observer). Click ahead to read our review…

I really enjoyed this film. It’s not a drama, but a light, candy coated confection of a movie. Now the thing is with this one, don’t go into Hitchcock with anything more than just having a good time. Honestly, this should have been more of a Lifetime movie of the week than a feature film starring Academy Award winner’s Sir Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren. The whole cast shines in this film about the Master of Suspense, Sir Alfred Hitchcock, and his trials, tribulations, challenges and experiences behind the making of one of his most famous films of all time, Psycho.

Picture and Sound: The Blu-ray picture quality of Hitchcock is as sharp as Norman’s knife and the Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound fully envelopes you…especially that infamous shower scene! If you are a fan of Hitchcock’s work or even just Psycho, this is a fun, even if not an entirely accurate, portrayal behind the making of a classic. Give this one a rental before you buy, you might just find yourself smiling.

Good Eeeeevening.
