Over the years Google Maps has offered not just amazing satellite views of places in the Earth we’d never seen from the heavesn, but also some amazing gems of in-the-moment activities on the ground when the Google Map camera made its rounds. But now…clearly someone at Google has taken their love for Doctor Who and incorporated it into an Easter Egg within a Google Map location! If you’ve ever dreamed of stepping inside of the Doctor’s TARDIS, well guess what, today, dreams come true…virtually at least. In Greater London, on a street called Earl’s Court Road, is an honest to goodness big blue Police Call Box, the inspiration 50 years ago for “the Doctor’s” TARDIS. Well now a simple click allows you passage not just into the time-lord’s spaceship, but a chance to explore around it (well at least the main control room of the current Doctor Who TARDIS) Feel free to peek around, get close ups of the control panel by zooming in, look up and down and be seamlessly enveloped inside the actual practical set. Block off the next 30 minutes once you read ahead and follow the directions we’ve provided below…Geronimo!!!
Follow these Steps…
1) Go to this Google Map address link
2) Move your cursor over the screen but only click on the DOUBLE ARROWS on the curb in front of the blue Police Box…
3) Once you’ve entered and realized that it’s bigger on the inside…move and drag your cursor around, up, down, click on places around the control panel and door to get down close to it…such amazing details from ceiling to floor…trust us, our replica prop builder pals in the RPF (Replica Prop Forum) are going to have a field day in there!!!
Below you’ll find some fun screengrabs we took of the interior…but definitely go check it out for yourself!!!
