Box Office Monday: Battleship Sinks to the Avengers

You sunk my Battleship!

You sunk my Battleship!

We know, we know. It’s a day late, but let’s face it, no one is perfect… besides the Avengers. In their third week, Marvel’s The Avengers is still number one at the box office. And yet again, another record is set! The Avengers hold the second-best third weekend, behind Avatar ($68.5 million). Heck, at the rate they’re breaking records, we should just re-name these articles “Avengers Monday.”

Now on a different note, and when I say “different” I mean “Not the Avengers,” Battleship opened to disappointing numbers, along with What What to Expect When You’re Expecting. Sasha Baron Cohen’s The Dictator has done decent, grossing $26.6 million since opening Wednesday, May 16. And Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows still isn’t receiving any love from the box office and critics.

Will the Men in Black be able to take down The Avengers next week? Check back next week to find out.
