Phineas & Ferb: The Perry Files, a DVD for Kids (Video Review)

Phineas and Ferb BOX Art

There have been a lot of children’s series on the Disney Channel, but not quite like the comedy of Phineas and Ferb as they go from one adventure to the next. Seven episodes from their animated series featuring Perry the Platypus are now available on DVD.  Called The Perry Files, this two-disc set provides a lot of fun for your elementary school age youngsters.

Like all their shows Phineas and Ferb want to make every day of their summer vacation spectacular and in this collection of adventures they do some very imaginative things while their jealous older sister Candace tries to keep them out of trouble. Even though Phineas and Ferb do it all to make every day the best day ever, evil lurks just around the corner! But there is hope for the unsuspecting citizens of Danville. Now, for the very first time, they crack open the top- secret archives of O.W.C.A. (Organization Without a Cool Acronym) to expose… THE PERRY FILES!

Join Perry the Platypus–a.k.a. Agent P. –on his most exciting adventures as he thwarts his nemesis, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, at every turn. With groovy gadgets, mad skills and his trademark brown fedora, this semi- aquatic, egg-laying mammal of action is unstoppable! Experience the hilarious havoc as he defends the Tri-state Area against Doof’s “inators,” battles rogue agent “Dennis the Bunny,” and much more.

The Cast of the cartoon series includes Vincent Martella (TV’s “Everybody Hates Chris”) as voice of Phineas, Thomas Brodie-Sangster as voice of Ferb, Dan Povenmire as voice of Dr. Heinz Doofenschmirtz, Ashley Tisdale (Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure) as voice of Candace, Alyson Stoner (Camp Rock 1 & 2) as voice of Isabella, and Caroline Rhea (TV’s “The Suite Life of Zach and Cody”) as voice of Mom.

Perry the Platypus, Phineas and Ferb

The series is very kid friendly and both boys and girls will enjoy watching the disc as Phineas and Ferb create some very funny antics.  The character Candace gets pretty outlandish at times trying to keep the two guys from getting into trouble and I will say that even I had a few laughs seeing her attempt to help her brothers out of some very interesting situations.  I especially liked the episode where Candace has a cast on her leg and does everything in her power to find a way out of bed.

The DVD, like most television series is not to heavy on the Bonus features, but the two included on the main disc are worth the watch.

Bonus Features include:

  • “Nerves of Teal” – Do you have nerves of teal? Then OWCA (Organization Without a Cool Acronym) wants you! See if you have what it takes to become like Agent P in this spy recruiting video.
  • “Platybus Tour” – Take a look inside the Platybus, the traveling Phineas and Ferb exhibit that toured North America.
  • Included in the box is a digital copy that can be downloaded on your PC computer and then transferred to other media that you can carry with you.

FINAL ANALYSIS:  Best viewed by Elementary School children. (B)
