Delivery Man, Brings the Comedy (Film Review)

What starts out a typical Vince Vaughn comedy becomes a heartfelt dramedy in the film Delivery Man.  The movie takes audiences into the world of a sperm donor and how one person can complicate the lives of the 533 children of the recipients.   The story is a fantasy, but it’s also a cool “what if” question that makes the movie very entertaining. It’s the Vince Vaughn I like most, sometimes funny and mostly sincere.

MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. Ep. 8: The Well (T.V. review)

SHIELD Level 7

In a tie-in to Thor: The Dark World, Coulson and company sweep up Dark Elf debris after the film’s events a la Damage Control, a Marvel comic about a crew of specialists who do likewise after superhuman combat.  This leads to a global adventure steeped in Norse mythology, which leads to an episode better than the movie itself. (For my Dark World review, click here.)

Unlike a lot of comic book big event crossovers, this tie-in doesn’t seem like just a money grab. (“If you read Civil War, then you must buy all 107 tie-in issues!”)  Don’t get me wrong, it is a money grab, (“If you liked the show, then see the movie.  Ideally in pricey 3D!”) but it also happens to be the best Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode to date.

“Planes” Flies High in 3D Blu-ray (Video Review)

Home fun for the whole family arrives on November 19th with the release of Planes in a Blu-ray, Blu-ray 3D, DVD combo pack just in time for holiday giving.  The animated comedy takes flight for the youngsters who like the excitement of racing and making new friends.  The film features quality principles that include friendship, helping others and realizing your dreams.  It may be a spinoff from Cars, but this high flyer has a life all its own.

“ONCE UPON A TIME” Season 3 Ep. 8 (TV Review)

ONCE UPON A TIME - "Think Lovely Thoughts"

ONCE UPON A TIME – “Think Lovely Thoughts”

Previously on Once Upon A Time… Rumplestiltskin’s past was outlined to the viewer as he disowned his son over security by becoming the Dark One, and with it losing a sense of kinship to his son. Later on he was told a prophecy that his undoing would be because of his grandson. Meanwhile, Prince Charming told the Alliance that he would have to stay on Neverland forever. Read ahead for our recap and review of this week’s exciting episode!

Happy 85th Birthday, Mickey Mouse!

When people laugh at Mickey Mouse, it’s because he’s so human; and that is the secret of his popularity. I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing — that it was all started by a mouse.– Walt Disney

Mickey Mouse, one of the most recognizable cartoon characters in the world, turns 85 today and we thought it appropriate to take a little time to say, “Happy Birthday, Mickey!”

It’s almost time for the Day of the Doctor…

You’ll be seeing an increase in some of the Doctor Who posts here on Beyond the Marquee over the next couple of weeks, not just because our staff loves the hit show, and not just because one of our correspondents are covering the events in London, but mainly because this week itself is the 50th Anniversary of the Classic BBC Sci-Fi series.

There are a couple great new trailers recently posted to promote not just the big 50th Anniversary episode of “The Day of the Doctor” on Saturday 11/23, but also “An Adventure in Space and Time”, this Friday 11/22, the behind the scenes docu-drama about the creation of the series itself and it’s original time-lord; William Hartnell. So if you don’t know what the hell a Whovian is by now, by the end of this week, it’s a sure bet you will. Take a spin, draw a card and move up 3 spaces to see the videos below…
