THE WORLD’S END Does Not Disappoint Fans Down Under at the New Zealand Premiere! (Film Review)

The World's End (2013)

The World’s End Premiere

Film Director Edgar Wright doesn’t disappoint with his latest Pegg – Frost comedy The World’s End.  With the previous stellar films, Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, this latest in the comedy trilogy had a great deal to live up to.  Impeccable timing, gruesome yet clever fight sequences, gripping action, great one-liners and a ridiculously funny script are just a few of the highlights.  The story line is another unbelievable scenario playing out, where five old friends reunite to finish a bar crawl from 20 years ago, they become heroes and must save the day (and the world of course).

Beyond the Marquee’s own New Zealand correspondent “Lady Kiwi” was on hand for the New Zealand premiere for the film last week and delivers this review for the film. The World’s End opens in New Zealand this Thursday, followed after by Ireland, the UK, Canada, Iceland, Australia and will eventually get to us here in the states on Aug 23rd.

Pacific Rim, It’s Monsters vs. Robots (Film Review)

Pump yourself up for this one because Pacific Rim takes action to new heights with a noisy display of explosive combat.  The battle scenes rise to shock and awe much like you’ve seen in films like Battleship and Transformers, but that’s the point of going to see this genre of film now isn’t it.  If you drag your lady along however, you may want to give her some ear plugs because the film uses noise as its major sound effect.  You don’t have to be an action lover to enjoy this headbanger…no wait, yes you do!

Grown Ups 2, a Bit Juvenile (Film Review)

The sequel Grown Ups 2 is a hilarious bunch of nonsense that follows the previous hilarious bunch of nonsense.  If you like Adam Sandler’s wacky comedy style that mostly works with sight gags, tongue in cheek quips and a lot of monkey business then you are a target for this film. Others may not want to waste their time.  Adam brings back the whole gang minus Rob Schneider from the original Grown Ups plus a lot of familiar film screen faces, but it’s not enough to make it any better than the first outing.

Check Out Disney’s SAVING MR. BANKS Trailer starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson

Normally, we wait until Trailer Tuesdays to showcase all the latest trailers, but sometimes we make an exception and turn our spotlight on one we think you’ll all enjoy. Check out the new trailer for Saving Mr. Banks, the true story of Walt Disney’s 19 year journey to obtain the rights to Mary Poppins from it’s author; P.L. Travers. We all know of the classic 1964 film starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, but few know about the challenges that the studio and Walt himself faced for nearly two decades to bring that film to life. From the evolution of the characters, to the creation of the songs we’ve sung for almost 50 years, Saving Mr. Banks takes you back in time on an entertaining journey behind the scenes of how the movie was made.

From the trailer it seems that Tom Hanks really has embodied the character traits of the legendary Walt Disney and Emma Thompson seems to really be embracing the stern and proper P.L.Travers, whose frustration with the studio seems all to evident. Though the trailer gives us a light and fun vibe, there certainly seems to be a dramatic undertone being hinted at, that perhaps there is a deeper, more personal connection to the famous fictional British Nanny that we could have ever imagined. Can’t wait to see this in the theaters on December 20th … we think this one has an Academy Award possibility for sure! Let us know what you think about the trailer in the comments below…
